"Classical PTK" from 1984 as mentioned in the comment on my last post.

Interesting classical instruction on the 5 Attacks.

"Five! From here you're directing your thrust between between his groin and his a**s. It's called the taint. It's very painful!" 😆

"You're ripping! It's a ripping motion!"

I also love how the guy assisting was also wearing a baseball cap indoors to emulate GT Gaje.

There's a lot suspension of disbelief in this seminar (watch the rest of the series). I suppose people at the time were really taken in by the exotic novelty of FMA. If this was my introduction to PTK I would've never studied beyond this seminar. There were too many unnecessary stylistic movements and the spouting of optimistic speculations about how a fight would go.

"Better to be cut with a sword. If that one (the stick) if it hits your bones it will shatter it to different places. With the sword you're JUST being cut." 🤣 classic...

"Who do you recommend?"

I've received a few PM asking me the same question. I'm not really sure if they're sincere or just people trawling for dirt. My answer is always the same.

It depends on what you're looking for. They're all good in their own way.

Eventually they'd ask me who I would personally train with in PTK if I had to start over. Since the question requires an answer based on fantasy, my answer is I would go back in time and train with GT Gaje. No one else.

Of course that is not a satisfactory answer and I'd get pressed to give a choice. Fine! This is my current recommendation in order of preference:

1. Apolo Ladra (iKali): for his depth of understanding of the essence of PTK.
2. Tim Waid (PTKSMF): for his precise and technical instruction of the forms and drills that make up the doce methodos of PTK.
3. Rommel Tortal (PTKWF): for his breadth of knowledge of the PTK curriculum.

I would want to get the essence, then I'd work on getting technical, and finally I'd work on learning the rest of the system.

This is important.

A system is an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves something (purpose). PTK is a system designed for human survival. Survival in a weapon combat oriented environment means an encounter must be terminated in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of energy expended.

With that said, a system relies on three core components: Elements, Interconnections, and Purpose.

In PTK, the elements are structured as a triad:

1. Physical Tools (weapons categories)
2. Spatial Reality (combat ranges and battle space)
3. Tactical Rules (strategic principles)

Lastly, in PTK, inteconnections are the DYNAMIC relationships, physical physics, flows of information, and behavioral feedback loops that tie the elements together. They are the actions, transitions, and bonds that occur during a fight.

The Wisdom of the Master.

One day over breakfast in my apartment in Long Beach.

"Fighting is not complicated. There are few basic rules:
1. Your mind is the weapon, the metaphysical is more important than the physical.
2. The goal is to be able to hit and not get hit in return.
3. Position takes precedence over attack.
4. Force is directly correlated to structure.
5. Always present the double threat of attack and control.
6. Change is the only constant.
7. Close in on the thirds using direct and indirect approaches."

Perhaps with a little help from AI i can turn my drawings into something useful for everyone.

This drawing is a study of one of the kata of Shinto Ryu.

I can do the same thing with my PTK notes.

This book is absolutely superb! I can't say what important information I already picked up. You have to read it for yourself. It is densely packed with the good stuff. I can see myself thoroughly reading this cover to cover and perhaps someday have the opportunity to learn first hand the contents.

"The most complete and happy victory is this: to compel one's enemy to give up on his purpose while suffering no harm to oneself". - Belisarius
