Another amazing article from , whose words always ring true to me. ————————————————-
‘Permit, allow, approve, authorize, release, tolerate, grant, give...’ this language is commonly used by health care providers when speaking to birthing individuals. I try to hide my internal cringe when I see a client’s autonomy or birth vision crack under the weight of these words. “ At its heart, this language is about a lack of respect. It’s how we speak to children, not competent adults.... It’s also a reinforcement of deep cultural beliefs about women as passive objects, not full owners of their bodies nor representatives of their babies...” The majority of my ‘job’ as a birthworker, is passing on the knowledge of physiological birth for individuals to take charge of their own births and advocate for themselves. So if/when they hear this vocabulary they can take back that power.

It is a fact that in the United States Black women are now 4-5 times more likely to die of childbirth related complications than white women. ✨The newly signed California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act, requires healthcare providers to be trained in implicit bias.✨”Bias, implicit or explicit, should no longer impact a woman’s ability to deliver a full-term baby or to survive childbirth.” - Senator Holly Mitchell ✨As a birth worker, it is my desire to provide support to individuals of all ethnicities and be a part of the charge to lower maternal mortality rates in the U.S. ✨What do you think of the new bill?

Hello & Welcome to Primal Birth Doula Services! When trying to find the 'right' birth professional for you and your family it's essential to understand their ethos. Primal Birth Doula Services is founded upon three central beliefs:

•Birth matters:
Birth is a sacred passageway. It matters. Positive birth experiences affects a family as well as society in it’s entirety. Holding space for a woman and her family as well as creating a sense of a community in a world that has become increasingly isolated can help make this divine transition a positive experience for the whole family.

• Birth is not an emergency:
As women we possess an innate birthing wisdom and power, however, through the medicalization of birth as well as our societal socialization to fear the unknown this knowing as been suppressed for many. Let’s uncover this power and birth in our power. As a birth doula, my role is to act as your mirror to reflect your strengths and knowings to create a birth vision that is uniquely yours.

• Empowerment through education:
Evidence-based education is essential to making informed decisions about your body and baby. By providing access to current birthing techniques, interventions as well as procedures you will be able to dispel myths and find the birthing environment that is right for your family. All informed choices should always be respected and honored.
