🏈 Surprise, Ms. Garcia!

WMS eighth graders thought our team was just stopping by to take photos of math class. Then Chargers linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips walked through the door to honor Brandy Garcia, Wiseburn USD’s 2026 Teacher of the Year, with a Mazda Community Legends Honor and $10,000 for her classroom! 🎉 She's also went home with a custom Chargers jersey, Chargers swag, and 2 tickets to the Chargers vs. Texans game! Wiseburn Middle School

Just weeks earlier, she was cheering on Del Aire PE teacher Lauren Shakstad for the same surprise. She had no idea she was next. 💙⚡

Thank you to the Los Angeles Chargers and Mazda USA for celebrating the teachers who make Wiseburn shine. 🙌

Six concepts. One shared language. 🐬💙

Our new Dolphin Community Project kicked off Sept. 25 with student assemblies and a PTSA Community Coffee led by Tzedek America, an organization that works with schools on belonging, empathy, and leadership. Students and families explored the same six ideas, starting with the difference between what we mean and how our words land, so the conversation can continue at home. 🏡

Swipe to learn the six words, then ask your Dolphin to explain them in their own words! ➡️

For some students, report cards will look different this year. 📋

Wiseburn's new Achievement Report replaces A–F with three levels (Proficient, Developing, Beginning) and shows where your child stands on each skill instead of averaging everything into one letter grade.

We've answered the questions families asked at the Sept. 8 webinar, including those about GPA, high school applications, honor roll and how you'll know if your child needs help.

Report cards are getting a refresh in some Wiseburn classrooms this year. 📋✨ Instead of a single letter grade, participating teachers are using a Proficiency Scale — Beginning, Developing, Proficient — that shows exactly what your child can do and what's next.

This is a pilot year (71% of our teachers!), building toward a district-wide rollout in 2027–28.

Swipe to see how it works → Questions? Join us virtually on Sept 8 at 5 PM for our community webinar. We'll go over the key changes, then open it up for a live Q&A. 🔗 Add it to your calendar now: https://www.addevent.com/event/5pvvh1nwq1z9
