From first steps to first classrooms, ESC19 Head Start and the Socorro Independent School District (Socorro ISD) welcomed children and families to new Head Start classrooms on Wednesday, October 14, at two new locations.
ESC Region 19 Head Start and Socorro ISD are partnering to provide Head Start and Early Head Start services at two Socorro ISD elementary school campuses. Through this collaboration, services are being provided at Sierra Vista, 1501 Bob Hope Dr. and Benito Martinez, 2640 Robert Wynn St. Each location includes four Head Start classrooms serving eligible children from birth to four.
“Socorro ISD is proud to welcome ESC19 Head Start at Benito Martinez Elementary and Sierra Vista STEAM Academy. Early childhood education is extremely important for a child’s successful educational journey. We are excited to give parents more opportunities to get their young children started in school,” said Socorro ISD Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Trejo. “This is an amazing partnership that will benefit many children and families in our community, and we look forward to seeing these students learn and grow in Socorro ISD.”
ESC19 Head Start now offers services at four Socorro ISD campuses, including the newly added Sierra Vista and Benito Martinez locations. All Head Start centers within Socorro ISD campuses offer Early Head Start for children from birth to 36 months and Head Start preschool for children ages 3 and 4.
The collaboration also offers eligible preschool children the opportunity to participate in a dual-enrollment program. The dual-enrollment structure will provide Head Start preschool services for part of the day and Socorro ISD preschool for the remainder of the day, to support a full-day educational experience.

We look forward to continuing this collaboration and the opportunities it creates for our community.”
ESC19 Head Start provides comprehensive services that support children’s early learning and development, health, nutrition, and family engagement. Locating services on Socorro ISD campuses creates an opportunity to connect Early Head Start child development services with the district’s school environment and to support children and families during these important early years.
