It started at 10. 🔧

For Robert Jurado, working with his hands started early—learning alongside his grandfather, gaining experience in the military and in the industry, and eventually discovering something else he was good at: teaching others.

Today, Robert brings that experience into the Automotive Technology classroom at Western Tech, helping prepare the next generation of technicians.

His message is simple:
“Everyone has to start somewhere.”
 And maybe even more importantly… “Learning never stops.”

🔑 “Education is the key to opportunities.”

Ephram Sims knows a thing or two about opening doors.
In June 2025, Ephram walked across the stage as a graduate of Western Technical College’s Electronics Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science program. A few months later, he was back at Western Tech—this time taking on a new challenge through SCADA training.

Today, Ephram works with El Paso Water, putting his technical skills to work right here in our community.
But what we love most about Ephram’s story isn’t simply where he works. It’s his belief in continuing to learn, challenging himself, and creating new opportunities.

As Ephram puts it: “There’s enough success out there for everyone.”
His journey is also a reminder of what can happen when education, workforce development and community partners come together. The SCADA training initiative brought together Western Tech, Workforce Solutions Borderplex, El Paso Water, The Trust for the Americas and support through the North American Development Bank.

Ephram had the key. 🔑�Then he turned it.

🚛 What happens when passion meets opportunity?

At just 22 years old, Western Technical College graduate Jordan Uribe is already helping shape the future of transportation as the first Volvo Autonomous Maintenance Specialist hired to support Volvo’s autonomous vehicle technology.

Just weeks after graduating from our Diesel Technology program this past June, Jordan returned to campus to share his journey with current students and talk about the exciting opportunities emerging in autonomous vehicle technology.

Jordan says choosing Western Tech was one of the best decisions he made. He credits the challenges, encouragement, and healthy competition among his classmates for pushing him to become the best version of himself.

Today, that hard work is paying off as he begins his career with one of the world’s most recognized names in diesel technology.

Congratulations, Jordan! Thank you for returning to inspire the next generation of Diesel Technology students.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the survivors, and stand alongside the families whose lives were forever changed.

As a college that proudly serves students from both sides of the border, Western Technical College joins the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez communities in remembering those we lost and recognizing the compassion, resilience, and unity that continue to define our region.

May we continue to choose kindness, hope, and support for one another.

🎉 A day to celebrate achievement. A day to celebrate opportunity.

Our RISE Day Scholarship Ceremony was a powerful reminder of what can happen when hard work, determination, and community support come together.
Surrounded by proud family members, dedicated faculty and staff, community partners—including our friends from iHeartRadio—and fellow students, we celebrated the accomplishments of Western Tech students while awarding more than $200,000 in scholarships to help them continue pursuing their educational goals.

To every scholarship recipient: Congratulations! Your dedication has brought you to this moment, and we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next.
