Not mom and dad's (or grandma and grandpa's) Thomas Manor :)
Hornets, or is it Wranglers, Hornglers/Wrangnets... it's an impressive campus. At the old campus, who remembers PE and running laps around the field, or when they opened the new wing?

Thomas Manor was named after the developer of the community, George Thomas of "George Thomas Homes". He lived for while, or so I was lead to believe at the corner of Gladys and McCarthy next to the Hamburger Inn. Who remembers the large billboard on Alameda and McCarthy that said "Welcome to Thomas Manor Community"? It was where the Chevron is now.

In 1970, Thomas Manor, founded in the late 60s, had the most students of any school in the district. Students attended from Headstart through 8th grade. In the early 70s, Riverside Junior High opened - mitigating that population issue. The neighborhood was new at that time. Built on what were farm fields in El Paso's Lower Valley, the neighborhood was home to many young families and many were first-time homeowners from El Segundo Barrio! What they found was a vibrant community with many opportunities for growth and friendships. With so many wonderful educators, spirited students and parental support, Thomas Manor Elementary offered a great education that included field trips and visiting educators. It was only as an adult that I came to truly appreciate all we were taught and shown.
