👶✨ What does an initial newborn assessment look like with Attuned Midwifery Services?

Right after birth, our focus is on keeping baby skin-to-skin with their parents, warm, and bonding. 💞 The first exam is done gently, at home, and with parents right by baby’s side.

Here’s what it includes:
🌿 Checking baby’s breathing, heart rate, temperature, and overall well-being
📏 Measuring weight, length, and head circumference
🧡 Assessing reflexes, tone, and feeding cues
🌸 Delayed cord clamping and a thorough look at baby’s transition earthside
🏡 All done calmly, respectfully, and without unnecessary separation

Our priority is making sure both baby and family feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for in those sacred first hours.

Important update from Attuned Midwifery Services:

I have accepted a staff midwife position with Vida Midwifery in Las Cruces, NM.

Because of this transition:
• I will be gradually closing Attuned Midwifery Services
• I will continue care for all currently registered clients through the end of 2026
• I will not accept new clients due July 2026 or later

This was not an easy decision. After 10 years of serving families in El Paso, this work and community mean a great deal to me.

At the same time, I’m looking forward to joining a group practice model that supports both midwives and families in a more sustainable way. Vida Midwifery is also opening a birth center in July 2026, which I’m excited to be part of.

If you are planning a future pregnancy, I encourage you to explore Vida Midwifery or reach out for referrals to trusted local midwives.

Thank you for your understanding and for the trust you’ve placed in me over the years.

🤝 Tuesday Tip #22: Partner Involvement Matters

Dads, partners, and co-parents — your presence matters deeply! Skin-to-skin contact, helping with feeds, diaper changes, and simply being there supports the whole family’s wellbeing.

✨ Midwife Insight:
Encourage your partner to bond with baby early and often. It boosts confidence, strengthens relationships, and shares the joy and responsibility.

We include partners in care and education because birth and parenting are a team effort.

A season of transition and reflection 🌿

As I begin the process of closing Attuned Midwifery Services, I find myself reflecting on this journey.

Over the past 10 years, this practice has grown into something deeply meaningful—not just a business, but a community rooted in trust, care, and connection.

In 2025, I reached two significant milestones: attending my 1000th birth and marking 25 years in midwifery. These moments have invited me to pause and consider what comes next.

I’m excited to share that I will be joining Vida Midwifery in Las Cruces as a staff midwife. This opportunity allows me to step into a collaborative model of care that I deeply believe in, and to be part of an upcoming birth center opening in July 2026.

With this transition, I will be gradually closing Attuned Midwifery Services. I will continue supporting current clients through 2026, but will not be taking new clients due July 2026 or later.

There is so much gratitude in this moment—for the families, the stories, and the trust that made this work possible.

More details about a community celebration will be shared soon. I would love the opportunity to gather and honor all that we’ve created together.

đź’™ Tuesday Tip #21: Postpartum Emotions Are Normal

The emotional ride after birth can be intense. Many parents experience the “baby blues” — mood swings, weepiness, irritability — in the first 1-2 weeks postpartum.

✨ Midwife Wisdom:
If feelings of sadness, anxiety, or overwhelm persist beyond two weeks or interfere with your daily life, reach out. You’re not alone, and support is available.

We’re here to listen, guide, and connect you with resources like counselors or support groups.

đź’“ Why Is Checking Your Blood Pressure During Pregnancy So Important? đź’“

Monitoring your blood pressure is a vital part of prenatal care — and here’s why:

🔍 Blood pressure helps us spot conditions like preeclampsia, which can affect your health and your baby’s wellbeing if left untreated.

✨ Early detection means we can provide timely support and care to keep you both safe.

At Attuned Midwifery Services, we check your blood pressure regularly during visits — because every number tells a story and helps us tailor your care.

Your health matters, and we’re here to watch closely and support you every step of the way.

🌸 What Makes Midwives So Special? 🌸

At Attuned Midwifery Services, we believe midwives offer something truly unique in the world of birth care. Here’s why midwives are so special and why many families choose them for their birth journeys:

✨ 1. Personalized, Compassionate Care
Midwives are known for taking the time to truly get to know you, your pregnancy, and your birth preferences. Unlike the often rushed appointments in a hospital setting, we build relationships with our clients, offering care that’s tailored to your individual needs.

✨ 2. Continuity of Care
When you choose a midwife, you’re not just a patient—you’re a partner. From your first appointment to postpartum care, midwives provide consistent, hands-on support and are with you throughout your pregnancy, birth, and beyond. We are there for you every step of the way.

✨ 3. Holistic Approach
Midwives provide whole-person care, focusing on your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. We offer natural, non-invasive care options and give you the knowledge and support to make informed decisions that feel right for you and your baby.

✨ 4. Empowering Birth Experiences
Midwives are passionate about empowering women and families to trust their bodies and make decisions that align with their values. Whether you want a natural birth, water birth, or a hospital birth with support, we help you create the birth experience you want—not what someone else thinks you should have.

✨ 5. Safe, Comfortable Birth Environment
Midwives offer care in a setting that feels comfortable and familiar—whether it’s a home birth or a birth center. We create a safe and calming environment where you can focus on the birth process without unnecessary stress or interruptions.

✨ 6. Expert Care with a Personal Touch
Midwives are highly trained professionals who specialize in normal, healthy birth. We are skilled in monitoring both mother and baby, ensuring a safe delivery, and providing immediate care when needed—all while keeping things personal and compassionate.
