The College welcomed incoming freshmen to the UTEP campus during the first in-person orientation last week. Students enjoyed teambuilding activities, learned about business majors and professional development events and registered for their first classes. We concluded the USC Emerging Leaders Program with a lecture on venue risk, followed by a tour and networking dinner at SoFi Stadium, the largest and the first indoor-outdoor stadium in the NFL. On the final day of the program, students competed to be the top team to present their capstone projects analyzing corporate risk. Congratulations to Max Vega, UTEP risk management student, for being part of the winning team!

Professionals from Prudential spoke to students about personal branding, diversity in the workplace, and how to bring their most authentic self to work during day 3 of the USC Emerging Leaders Program. We had an engaging conversation to help students navigate the professional settings they will be entering at their internships next week. Day 2 of the USC Emerging Leaders Program started with a keynote speech by Armand Wandji, Vice President & Actuary at Prudential, where he shared wisdom about the one habit he practices every day. Students then took an exclusive tour of Disney Studios to learn about the role of risk management in the entertainment industry. The USC Emerging Leaders Program kicked off on Monday! Two UTEP students, Jazmin Jayme and Max Vega, were among the 19 selected to participate in a week-long professional development event and a summer internship for risk management students. Pamela Prieto, Director of the Prudential Risk Management Program, also led a StrengthsFinder workshop to help them understand how to make a big impact as they start their careers. The College congratulates Adrian Tippit, who completed his Ph.D. in Finance this semester and And Yilu Wang, who completed his Ph.D. in Management. Adrian Tippit's dissertation was titled "Two Essays on Employee Litigation Risk;" Yilu Wang's dissertation was titled "Not all i-deals are the same: Examining a process model linking content-specific i-deals to employee performance outcomes"

Students from Pebble Hills Sparta Business Academy visited the College of Business Administration and UTEP this week to learn more about college life. Through presentations and games hosted by COBA’s program leads, these future business students learned about COBA majors and professional development opportunities offered by the College. They also got to tour campus and enjoy pizza after the morning’s activities!
