Today, we celebrate and honor Mrs. Rosales as she begins an exciting new chapter in Tennessee.

Throughout her time with our program, Mrs. Rosales has been an exceptional professor, clinical supervisor, and mentor. She has inspired countless students through her dedication to teaching, her compassionate guidance, and her unwavering support both in the classroom and in the clinic. Her encouragement has helped shape confident, capable clinicians, and her kindness has made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to learn from her.⭐️

While we are saddened to see her leave, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to our program, our clinic, and our students. Her passion, leadership, and genuine care for others have created a legacy that will continue to inspire future clinicians for years to come.🧡

Thank you, Mrs. Rosales, for believing in us, challenging us to grow, and making such a meaningful difference in our lives! ⛏️

Inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals starts with mentorship. Kasandra Onzures, a first-year graduate student, and Rebecca Lattimore, a faculty member, recently participated in the Rural Healthcare Summer Camp in Alpine, Texas, where they served as counselors and mentors for 28 high school students from rural communities. Through sharing their experiences and promoting the field of speech-language pathology, they helped students explore healthcare career pathways and learn about opportunities to serve rural and underserved populations. 🏜️

Through their leadership, mentorship, and passion for the profession, Kasandra and Rebecca helped raise awareness about the important role speech-language pathologists play in serving diverse populations. Their efforts even inspired several students to express interest in pursuing careers in speech-language pathology! 💬✏️

We are proud to see members of our program representing the profession, advocating for speech-language pathology, and encouraging the next generation of healthcare professionals. Thank you, Kasandra and Rebecca, for making a meaningful impact on these future leaders! ⭐️

Throughout the week, they facilitated activities focused on literacy, sensory exploration, arts and crafts, and critical thinking through interactive games and board games, all while promoting meaningful communication and engagement. Experiences like these provide invaluable hands-on learning while reinforcing the importance of accessible communication and individualized support. Our second-year graduate student, Kevin Vasquez, recently completed his externship at the UAB Voice Center, where he gained hands-on experience working with voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders. Reflecting on his experience, Kevin shared that although he was initially overwhelmed by the complexity of the cases, the experience ultimately pushed him to grow as a clinician and strengthened his ability to navigate complex cases through effective communication, counseling, and clinical reasoning. 🧡

“My biggest takeaway is that regardless of the setting or population you serve, we are medical detectives trying to help individuals live their best possible lives.” ⭐️

We are so proud of Kevin and all of the dedication, resilience, and compassion he continues to bring into the field of speech-language pathology! 💙
