Three days back in the classroom and I am officially calling that a WIN. 😂🙌🏼🍎

We’ve practiced routines approximately 847 times, reviewed expectations another 392 times, and I’ve said, “Show me you’re ready” more times than I can count. 🤣

My classroom is still a work in progress, my teacher to-do list somehow gets LONGER every time I cross something off 😵‍💫, and I’m pretty sure my feet have forgotten what sitting down feels like. 😂

BUT… we made it. 🥹🫶🏼

Three days of getting to know my babies, teaching them how Mrs. Figs’ classroom works, building our little classroom family, and slowly finding our groove. 🌈🍎❤️

So tonight… the feet are UP. The teacher bag can stay exactly where I dropped it. And whatever didn’t get done this week?

That sounds like Monday Mrs. Figs’ problem. 🤣🙋🏼‍♀️

Happy Friday, teacher friends! WE SURVIVED! 🥳🍎🫶🏼

Guess what, teacher friends?! 🥹🍎💗

I got the ALL CLEAR from my oncologist and…I GO BACK TO WORK TOMORROW! 😭🙏🏻

Diosito is SO good. Always. 🥹🙏🏻❤️

To tell you I’m nervous would be a tiny understatement. 😂 I haven’t even met my new little babies yet, so this teacher heart is feeling ALLLL the emotions right now. 🥹🍎 I’m excited, nervous, grateful, emotional…and also wondering if I still remember how to teach. 🤣🤭

Today I had the sweetest little outing with my amazing Cuata and one of our besties, and it honestly felt like the perfect way to spend my last official day of recovery. 🫶🏼🥰

And YES…I heard all of you telling me to TAKE. IT. SLOW. 😂 I promise I’m listening! My plan is to give myself lots of grace, listen to my body, and remember that I don’t have to do ALL the teacher things on day one. (Someone please remind Teacher Me of this tomorrow. 😆)

Please send all the good vibes, prayers, and a little extra teacher energy my way because your girl is going to need them! 😂🙏🏻🍎

I cannot wait to finally meet my babies, get back into my classroom, and see what this school year has in store for us. 🥹❤️

And truly… thank you. Thank you for every prayer, message, comment, checkin, and ounce of love you’ve sent my way throughout all of this. I’ve felt every bit of it. 🫶🏼

Here’s to a new chapter…one day at a time. 🥹🙏🏻🍎💗

Mrs. Figs is BACK! 🥹🍎✏️📚

Our reading focus wall keeps us ALL informed and on track! The kids refer back to it very often. They like knowing exactly what we’re learning for reading each week. The posters are a great visual for them. I also like to project them on our smart board while teaching each skill. 1st and 2nd grade available in my shop. I’ve been a little quiet on here lately… and I think I’m finally ready to share why. 🤍

If I’m being completely vulnerable, part of me hesitated to post this because I thought, “Diosito (God)… people are probably thinking, what is happening to this girl NOW?!” 😅😂 It feels like the last few years have brought one thing after another.

But this is real life. And if sharing my story encourages even ONE woman to listen to her body, advocate for herself, or feel less alone, then it’s worth sharing. 🤍

⚠️ A little warning before you swipe: the last photo is an actual surgical image of the mass/tumor found on my o***y. If you’re sensitive to medical images, please don’t swipe all the way through. 🫣

In December 2023, I had a hysterectomy after years of struggling with adenomyosis, endometriosis, cysts, pain, and gynecological issues. I truly believed that chapter of my life was finally behind me.

Unfortunately, endometriosis had other plans.

This July, I ended up in the ER in excruciating pain. What started as another trip to the hospital turned into emergency surgery. My only remaining o***y had ruptured and I was bleeding internally. During surgery, doctors found a large mass/tumor, blood and clots, scar tissue, and endometriosis.

And just like that, I lost my last o***y.

The word tumor was terrifying. Waiting to know whether it was cancer was terrifying.

But by the grace of God, it was benign. 🙏🏼😭

The mass was related to endometriosis, the same disease I have battled for most of my life.

I share that because women’s pain is so often normalized. We’re told painful periods are just part of being a woman. We push through. We work through it. We convince ourselves we’re being dramatic.

Please listen to your body.

Please advocate for yourself.

Ask the questions. Request the testing. Get the second opinion. And if something doesn’t feel right, keep asking until someone listens.

Adenomyosis and endometriosis are REAL, and they can affect so much more than a period. I wish I had understood that when I was younger.

This recovery has also been incredibly emotional for me.

I wasn’t able to begin the school year with my students. 💔 Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE the beginning of school; preparing my classroom, meeting my babies, learning their personalities, establishing our little classroom family. Having to watch the first day come and go from home was harder than I expected.

But my body needed me more.

For once, I had to choose healing instead of pushing through.

And somewhere in all of this, God reminded me of something I desperately needed to hear:

He made me a teacher for a reason. 🍎🤍

My journey to having children of my own may not have looked the way I once dreamed it would. And losing my final o***y closed a door that carries its own grief.

But God has never stopped placing children in my life for me to love.

Every year, He gives me another classroom full of little humans to teach, encourage, protect, celebrate, and love. I get to be Nani. I get to be an aunt. I get to love so many children who have become pieces of my heart.

Maybe motherhood and love don’t always arrive in the package we imagined. 🥹

Right now, my job is simply to heal. To give my body the grace and time it deserves after everything it has carried.

And I could not have made it through this season without my village. 🤍

My husband, my parents, my cuata, my family, my friends, my coworkers, my school family, and every single person who called, texted, visited, brought flowers, checked on me, covered for me, loved on my students, or whispered my name in a prayer…

thank you.

You carried me through some very scary days.

And above all, thank You, God. 🙏🏼

For protecting me.
For putting the right people beside me.
For another benign pathology report.
For reminding me that slowing down is not giving up.
And for giving me another chance to heal.

I’m still recovering. I’m still adjusting. I’m still learning what this new chapter looks like.

But I’m here. 🤍

And soon, God willing, Mrs. Figs will be back where she belongs; in her classroom with her babies. 🍎🥹🫶🏼

If you take anything from my very long, very unexpected story, let it be this:

Know your body. Trust your body. Advocate for your body.

No one knows it better than you do.

Happy 47th Birthday to my forever favorite person. ❤️🎉

I thank God every single day for blessing me with you as my husband.

Life hasn’t always been easy for us, but when I look back at everything we’ve been through, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. We’ve built a beautiful life together; one filled with faith, resilience, laughter, and a whole lot of love. And I couldn’t be more proud of the man you are.

Thank you for being not only an incredible husband and provider, but also my biggest cheerleader, my protector, and my safe place, Thank you for loving me so selflessly and for always finding ways to make my life easier, even when it means making yours a little harder. I see it all, and I will never take your love for granted.

You’re the most thoughtful, kindhearted man and the very best dog dad to our sweet Oreo and Firu. 🐾

Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve a love like yours… but one thing I know for sure is that I would choose you in every lifetime, over and over again.

Te amo con todo mi corazón. Feliz cumpleaños, Bebe. 🫶🏼🥰

P.S. Oreo, Firu, and I love you the most. 🤎🐾 ❤️

One thing about teachers… we know how to show up for each other. 🥹🫶🏼

Today we traded lesson plans for pool floats, classroom chatter for laughter, and deadlines for cocktails. 🍹☀️

A little summer get-together filled with sunshine, yummy snacks, great company, and some very well-deserved relaxation. My heart is full. 💛

Cheers to summer and to the incredible teachers who pour so much into others all year long. You deserve this. 🤍

Feet Up Friday. ☀️👣

This summer feels a little different… and I’m soaking up every minute of it.

Cheering on Firu through her recovery, and finally slowing down, I don’t take quiet moments like these for granted.

Today’s agenda:

🩷 Sunshine
🐶 Cuddles
📚 A good book
💧 Staying hydrated

That’s it… and honestly, it’s enough.

Happy ! I hope you find a little time to recharge this weekend. 💛

P.S. Has anyone else read The Let Them Theory?

It’s such a simple way to make every student feel seen and celebrated on their special day. 💕

Tell me you’re an elementary teacher without telling me you’re an elementary teacher… 😏📚

I’ll go first:

✨ Color-coded groups
✨ Centers rotations
✨ Laminated task cards
✨ A system for EVERYTHING

Because if there’s one thing elementary teachers are going to do, it’s create a system that keeps learning organized and running smoothly. 🙌🏻😂

These editable centers rotation boards make it easy for students to know exactly where they’re going and what they’re doing during centers time.

Comment CENTERS and I’ll send you the link! 🫶🏼
