“He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8b

Often in life, we feel like we are losing and have no way to bounce back. There was a time when Moses had led the people for many years, but as he got older, God had other plans for him. God commanded Moses to pass the leadership off to Joshua. Moses knew that Joshua would face times that felt like a 28-3 game situation. Moses walked through it himself and encouraged Joshua, reminding him that no matter how hard it got, how difficult it seemed, or how dark the situation was, he should not be afraid and keep going because God was with him.

When we feel defeated, given up on, or like we have messed up time and time again, we can remember not to be afraid and to keep pressing on because God is with us. We can’t let our past determine the outcome of the rest of our lives.

Do you ever feel this way? Pray this with us, “God, life is tough. When it feels like I cannot get back up, remind me that You are with me. Help me not to be afraid but to find strength in You. Amen.”

Athletes are often pushed to the brink with grueling practices, travel schedules, schoolwork, offseason training and constant pressure to reach peak performance. It’s necessary to allow our physical bodies time to rest and replenish.

Jesus extends an invitation to get away with Him, to step back and recognize what’s most important.

“… Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” - Mark 6:31a

After time away of true rest, we can come back and be restored to a regular level of activity. As we compete and serve our teams, there is an opportunity to model health in all areas of life. There is power in slowing down and trusting God to handle things while you set aside time to rest.

Honor the Lord, seek intentional time away just between you and Him, and revive your body, mind and spirit by giving it the deep and lasting rest it needs.
