Got a call from the counselor at my child's elementary school today:

Counselor: Hi there, how are you? I'm reaching out regarding the accelerated instruction hours we're required to offer since your child doesn't take the STAAR. What would you like to do?

Me: I decline AI, thank you.

Counselor: perfect, thank you! Have a great summer and say hi to your older child!

And that's how easy it is to avoid STAAR and its related "consequences."

Gearing up for another round of STAAR - have you faced any challenges locally?

So... the ratings that are based on STAAR scores are no longer reliable? This is my surprised face. 🙄

TEA Announces Temporary Delay of Release of 2023 A-F Accountability Ratings | Texas Education Agency AUSTIN, Texas – September 12, 2023 – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) today announced a temporary delay in the release of 2023 A-F accountability ratings for districts and campuses, originally scheduled for September 28th.

STAAR tutoring is optional! Refer to question 3 in this FAQ about HB 1416, passed in the most recent TX legislative session. Don't let your school tell you otherwise.

We will never get rid of STAAR unless we realize that we are not alone in wanting to get rid of it - we have to share our stories so that we feel stronger together, and to know we're not fighting this fight by ourselves, one at a time.
