Breaking news: Sutura, a new binational arts event, will take place across El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, from November 18 to 22.⁠

Founded and led by curator and artist Edgar Picazo Merino, Sutura brings together 100+ artists and 20+ cultural organizations through exhibitions, performances, concerts, and independent projects on both sides of the border.⁠

In our first look at the just-announced event, Jordan Eddy interviews Picazo Merino about how Sutura (“suture” in Spanish) aims to rethink familiar ideas about borderlands identity and art. “If the border is a wound, then what’s the next step? You repair a wound, or you try to mend it,” he says, referencing an oft-quoted concept by Chicana scholar Gloria Anzaldúa.⁠

The Texas Oral History Association’s 2026 Call for Papers has been extended to July 22, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

There is still time to submit your proposal for papers and sessions related to oral history research, practice, or methodology. We encourage scholars, students, professionals, and community historians to take advantage of the extended deadline and share their work with TOHA.
