Online Book Club for Kids!



Hey guys, I am a middle school teacher here in El Paso with over 16 years of experience. I am a curriculum writer, a reading specialist, and am also ESL certified. Teaching students to fall in love with reading and to become lifelong readers is a passion of mine. In an age of technology where some kids are now more interested in their devices, its especially important for me to see students fall in love with a book. I am going to be starting up my online weekly book club on Sunday evenings again for students in grades 5-8. The idea is to take a group of 6 students and read through a high interest short novel together. The ultimate goal is for students to finish the book and realize that reading is awesome, and hopefully, begin picking up books and start reading on their own for the rest of their lives! It’s my hope that we will have great discussions filled with laughter and wonder as to what will happen next. Students will walk away with reading comprehension skills and a better understanding of the elements of fiction. Looking for some supplementary tutoring and reading instruction for your children during this upcoming school year? I am going to begin hosting a Virtual Reading STAAR academy over Zoom for middle school students on Saturdays. It will be a one hour session from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a small group of students (5 max). I will be taking students, step by step, through STAAR level passages as well as teaching through all the concepts they will be expected to master in middle school. The first one will begin on August 1st and will continue through December. It is my hope that these will be in depth, highly engaging sessions that will supplement and strengthen students’ reading skills and prepare them for high school and beyond.
