We'd like to thank the El Dorado Community Foundation for awarding our grant request, "Commercial Culinary Transformation". Larissa Wright, El Dorado High School's FCS Teacher wants to transform her "home ec" kitchen into something her students will experience as they pursue a culinary arts career.
"My goal is to commercialize my culinary program more. This benefits students by giving them experience with what kitchens in the culinary industry will look like. This is completely new for EHS, because what we currently have in our kitchen is just kitchens that are set up similar to what students might see at home. I have had several students express interest in working in commercial kitchens for their career someday, and this would give them more of a taste of what that is like. It also allows students to spread out more, which could allow me to have smaller lab groups, allowing students to have more hands-on experience. Cooking experience is not only great for a career in cooking, but also is great for life, because everyone needs to eat." Larissa Wright
This $2,100 award will allow her to buy two commercial food preparation tables and cabinets to organize the kitchen tools.
