Golden Hills School

Golden Hills School CAIS/WASC accredited, Junior-K to 8th grade independent school. Strong academics, values and service

Golden Hills School is a fully accredited, private, non-profit school, offering complete academic programs for students in Junior-Kindergarten through Eighth grade. Golden Hills School is locally managed and controlled and not part of a corporate chain. Our philosophy is that the successful education of a child requires an equal partnership between students, their parents, and the school. At Golde

n Hills School we are committed to nurturing and developing this partnership to ensure a superior educational experience for each of our students. Small class sizes, student self-discipline, excellent teachers, and parental involvement are the foundations on which Golden Hills School was established. We believe in challenging each student at their ability-level, providing him or her with the opportunity to progress at his or her own pace. Our academic program focuses on imparting a strong academic foundation, through small group, ability-based learning with differentiated instruction. Character education is a critical part of who we are as a community. In addition, Golden Hills School offers an extensive portfolio of enrichment classes enabling us to deliver “A Complete Education” at a value we feel is unmatched in the Sacramento area. We incorporate physical education daily at all grade levels taught by a full-time physical education instructor. Our students enjoy art, music, dance, acting, Spanish, and computers. We participate in the county sports program which includes basketball, volleyball, wrestling, football and cross country. Our students have the opportunity to participate in sport clinics including golf and basketball. Extracurricular activities take place on campus in our complete gymnasium with stage for the performing arts.

We’re excited to kick off a fun new tradition at Golden Hills School, our Teacher Spotlight!

Each month, we’ll shine the spotlight on two of our amazing teachers as a special way to celebrate all the hard work, dedication, and heart they bring to GHS each and every day. Our teachers do so much to inspire, encourage, and support our students, and we can’t wait to give them some well-deserved recognition!

Our September Spotlight Teachers are:
Alan Surrey — 5th Grade Teacher
Elyse Blanco — Spanish Teacher

Congratulations, Mr. Surrey and Mrs. Blanco! We are so lucky to have you as part of the GHS community.

If you see them around campus this month, be sure to give them a little congratulations and help us celebrate our very first Teacher Spotlight!

More information about these two wonderful teachers will be spotlighted in the next couple days.

Middle School elections are underway this week, and our students are bringing their A-game when it comes to campaign posters! From clever slogans to colorful designs, the creativity is definitely in full force around campus.

We love seeing our Hawks step up, share their ideas, and get involved in their school community. Good luck to all of our Middle School candidates!

We ended our second week with a much-loved GHS tradition—our Back-to-School BBQ & Movie Night Celebration, generously hosted by our Board of Trustees!

Families gathered to enjoy a delicious dinner from Buckhorn BBQ + Grill, treats and ice cream, and a family movie under the stars. It was a fun-filled and well-attended event.

A special thank you for the coffee bar and very thoughtful tribute to Dr. Waite!

We extend many thanks to our Board of Trustees for hosting a warm and welcoming evening and to everyone who joined in on the fun!

Our Tech Lab Got an Upgrade!

Our students are already enjoying the newly renovated Tech Lab! With new desks and chairs designed for flexibility, the space can easily transition from focused individual work to group projects and collaboration.

The fresh, modern setup creates an inviting environment where students can explore, create, problem-solve, and learn together. We love seeing our Hawks making the most of this exciting new space! 💙💛

Second Graders Save Sam!
New Second Graders faced their first Camp Schifferle problem-solving challenge: SAVE SAM! Poor Sam the Gummy Worm had fallen out of his boat and was in serious trouble! He needed to get out of his boat and safely into his peach-ring life preserver.

But there was a catch...The students could NOT use their hands to touch Sam, his boat, or his life preserver! Each camper received ONE paper clip to use as their only rescue tool.

Their mission was to figure out how to:
Get Sam out of his boat.
Use the paper clip to move Sam.
Get Sam safely into his peach-ring life preserver.
Keep trying if their first idea didn't work!
There was a lot of thinking, experimenting, laughing, problem-solving, and perseverance happening in our classroom!

Some strategies worked beautifully. Others...well, let's just say Sam had to wait a little longer for his rescue!

The best part was watching students try something, discover that it didn't work, rethink their plan, and try again. They learned that making a mistake isn't failing—it is simply an opportunity to try a new strategy!

Our campers encouraged one another and celebrated each other's successes.

SAM WAS SAVED!

It was a wonderful first lesson in critical thinking, creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving—and, of course, we had a whole lot of fun doing it!
