The position of the bow hand at the frog is crucial. The weight of the elbow, a naturally rounded wrist, and the position and shape of the pinky are the key to a soft, seamless, and beautiful bow connection.
It all begins before the movement itself — with anticipation, a physical sense of what is about to happen, and muscle memory. The body must already know and feel the movement before the bow changes direction.
At the same time, articulation and intonation in the left hand must remain precise and unaffected.
This kind of multitasking develops a child far beyond musicianship. It strengthens neural connections and develops the ability to think, feel, coordinate multiple processes simultaneously, and sustain concentration for extended periods — skills that carry over into every area of life.

The Russian violin school is deeply rooted in the ideas of hearing ahead and feeling ahead — anticipating both the sound and the physical sensation before they actually happen.
This applies not only to purely technical elements, such as bow connections or intonation. It also shapes phrasing and musical thinking as a whole.
You need to hear the direction and development of a piece before you begin to play it — almost like an actor stepping into a character before the director calls, “Action!”
And from the very first second of the performance, you invite the audience into the world and atmosphere of the music.

How do you develop freedom and fluidity in the bow arm — and bring depth and fullness to the tone?
How can you put into words every detail of the bow stroke, every subtle sensation of the bow on the string?
Very often, you simply have to take matters into your own hands — quite literally.
Things like the natural weight of the shoulder, freedom in the wrist, and the way the bow settles into the string can only truly be understood through physical sensation. Sometimes the student has to feel it before they can understand it.
And when it comes to the bow hand, every single finger has a part to play.

The years fly by. Cute children grow into accomplished violinists, winning competitions and reaching a professional level. It is so wonderful to see them so young again in these old photos.

# teacher lessons # I warmly invite students, especially those participating in the school orchestra program, to join my violin studio. I welcome students who are excited to learn, grow, and develop strong technique, musicianship, and confidence in a warm and supportive atmosphere. I also prepare students for CM and ABRSM exams, competitions, and auditions. I look forward to meeting you and your young musicians!

LA, state convention, Novacek, Perpetual mobile

I am so proud of the achievements of these students, who started training at 9–10 years old and now, at 14–15, are able to perform such serious and demanding repertoire. Great job, Tannishtha — keep going!
