Welcome back, everyone! The first day of school is finally here, and it was wonderful to see the excitement on our students’ faces as they arrived and stepped into their new classrooms.

From scavenger hunts and school tours to reconnecting with friends, there was plenty to be joyful about as we kicked the year off together. There may be some nerves and uncertainty as everyone settles into new routines, but that's all part of the journey. We’re looking forward to learning, growing, and discovering together in the months ahead! 👏👏👏

Teachers and staff have been hard at work getting everything ready for the first day of school tomorrow! There are name tags to make, bookshelves to stock, and containers of markers to fill as classrooms come together for a new year.

Of course, there's also been time to have a little fun. Last week, our PE teachers led the staff in a team-building activity called "Cross the River," giving everyone a chance to get outside, work together, and enjoy each other's company before the busy school year begins.

We're excited to welcome our students back tomorrow! 😎🎒

The campuses may be (relatively) quiet, but the new school year is already getting underway! 📚

Our new sixth graders recently came together for orientation, getting to know their new school and learning more about what life at Avis will be like. They explored spaces around campus (including the library!) and started getting comfortable with some of the people and places that will soon become part of their daily routines.

It was a great way to kick off this next chapter and get our newest middle schoolers ready for the year ahead. Welcome, sixth graders! 👏❤

And just like that, another summer camp season at PS has come to a close!

Over the past several weeks, campers dove deeper into new interests, tackled creative challenges, built friendships, and had a ton of fun. From sports and cooking to art, science, engineering, and outdoor adventures, every week brought something new to discover and a fun theme to explore.

Thank you to our incredible campers, families, and especially the staff (!!) for making this such a fun and memorable summer. We hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the break, and we can't wait to welcome our students back to campus for another great school year in a few weeks! 👏🎒📚❤️

Our middle school campers have been putting their math skills to the test this week! One group explored energy conservation by experimenting with different insulation materials and measuring the temperature inside their model homes, while another practiced measurement conversions by scaling up a model house and everything inside it. Over on the volleyball court, campers have been learning new skills, playing games, and enjoying some friendly competition. Another fun week of learning at PS Summer Camp! 🏐📐😎

The campers are so fortunate to have our colab teacher Gil with them as they all become "makers" this week. If you can imagine it, you can build it, as they learn how to safely use the right tools to bring their inventions to life. And over at the Avis campus, math campers got to make their very own tie-dye shirts after learning about fractions and Fibonacci sequences. One camper even made his shirt ocean colors because of the many ways that Fibonacci sequences show up in nature! 🛠🧮

Here's to another fun-filled week of curiosity, creativity, and adventure at PS Summer Camp! 🌍 It was Earth Week at Tapscott as campers made art, crafted their own bird feeders, took part in trash cleanups, and more. 🎨 Meanwhile, Avis campers learned how to create their own graphic novels and brought their stories to life by building corresponding worlds in Minecraft! 🎮

Our second graders recently held their Special Person celebration, an event showcasing a project focused on the “special people” in their lives. They started by interviewing someone two generations older than them. Then, they did a series of activities that helped them think deeply about the similarities and differences between them and their special people. These activities included a water-colored poem, portrait, Venn diagram, and even a brief biography. Finally, on the day of the celebration, each child brought their special person’s favorite dish to share. The final event was complete with food, conversation, and community connection! 🎨🫶

We loved March Madness so much we decided to carry it over into April!

Last Friday we hosted staff vs student basketball games at our Avis campus with both the elementary and middle schoolers battling it out on the court. The student council was on hand to sell snacks, Paws the mascot made an appearance, and everyone had a blast cheering on their teams. A big thank you goes out to Karis who organized the event as well as Dean Amy and Larisa who helped with the planning. We look forward to making this an annual tradition!
