MEET THE TEAM | COACH JOE

Musician. Martial Artist. Instructor. Fitness Coach. Warrior University New Braunfels.

Coach Joe brings a unique perspective to the Warrior University coaching team, combining years of martial arts training with a lifelong passion for music.

A professional musician, Joe has spent years training with Warrior University and holds the rank of Apprentice Instructor in Jeet Kune Do & Filipino Martial Arts through the Jeet Kune Do Athletic Association under Sifu Harinder Singh Sabharwal.

That background has shaped one of Joe’s favorite areas to teach: rhythm and cadence.

Joe has a natural ability to draw connections between music and martial arts—helping students understand timing, tempo, movement, broken rhythm, and flow in ways that go beyond simply memorizing techniques.

His training also extends into the fitness side of the Warrior lifestyle. Joe is a Certified Warrior Fitness Coach and an avid practitioner of Action Strength, bringing functional strength and physical development into his approach to training.

And now Joe is taking on his next role.

After recently relocating to New Braunfels, Texas, Coach Joe will be heading up the Warrior University New Braunfels branch, bringing the Warrior University curriculum, culture, and community to a new tribe.

Whether he’s holding an instrument, teaching martial arts, building strength, or leading the next generation of Warriors, the common thread is the same:

Timing. Rhythm. Movement. Expression.

We’re proud to have Coach Joe representing Warrior University and leading our expansion into New Braunfels.

MEET THE TEAM | COACH JOSH

Martial Artist. Jeet Kune Do Practitioner. Student. Coach. Leader.

Coach Josh Bailey’s martial arts journey began with Tae Kwon Do as a kid and later expanded into boxing. Like many martial artists, he was drawn to Jeet Kune Do through Bruce Lee—but it wasn’t until he began training under Sifu Clay Pratka at age 30 that he began to truly understand the depth of the art.

Early in his training, Josh relied heavily on his natural strength and speed.

Training under Sifu Clay and Sifu Beverly Pratka challenged him to approach martial arts differently—to slow down, trust the fundamentals, and rebuild his footwork, timing, technique, and discipline from the ground up.

But the biggest transformation went beyond fighting.

Through Jeet Kune Do, Josh began exploring the deeper principles of knowing yourself, adapting to circumstances, questioning limitations, and discovering what genuinely works for you.

Today, the mental, philosophical, and personal-development aspects of martial arts are every bit as important to Josh as the physical skills.

He remains a dedicated student while continuing his development as a coach and future instructor, with the goal of passing those same lessons on to others.

Josh is also helping lead the next chapter of Warrior University as Coach Josh of the Katy Hub, bringing the Warrior University approach and community to a new group of students.

For Josh, martial arts isn’t simply about becoming a better fighter.

It’s about becoming a better version of yourself.

MEET THE TEAM | COACH ANNA SCHMERMUND

Martial Artist. Competitor. Mentor. Coach.

Coach Anna Schmermund brings experience across multiple martial arts disciplines, competition experience on both the tatami and in the ring, and—most importantly—a genuine passion for helping develop the next generation of Warrior University students.

Anna is an ISKA US Open Sparring World Champion (Tatami) and has also stepped into the ring as a WAKO K-1 Kickboxing competitor.

She is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt and continues her martial arts development as a student of Sifu Clay Pratka and Sifu Beverly Pratka, training in Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, MMA, Filipino Martial Arts, and the broader Warrior Arts curriculum.

Her training also extends into the Stillness side of the Warrior lifestyle. Anna practices Tai Chi and Qigong under Sifu Harinder Singh Sabharwal, giving her experience across the full spectrum of hard and soft martial arts.

At Warrior University, however, one of Anna’s most important roles is Assistant Coach for Warrior Kids.

She brings energy, patience, and enthusiasm to helping our younger Warriors develop confidence, discipline, physical skills, and a love for training.

And Anna’s contribution doesn’t stop when class ends.

She is constantly supporting Warrior University, organizing additional training opportunities, helping create special activities for the kids, bringing people together, and finding ways to make the community stronger.

That’s what being a Warrior is really about.

Championships and belts are accomplishments.

Showing up for your tribe and helping the people around you become better—that’s character.

We’re proud to have Coach Anna helping build the next generation of Warriors.
