We had so much fun on our first full STEAM ahead day of the year! We started the day with a melting crayon experiment! We took turns one at a time to work with the teacher to use a hair dryer to melt crayons on a canvas. It was so much fun! After that, we did another experiment to learn how different liquids can have different thicknesses. We used water, corn syrup, and vegetable oil for the experiment. We made predictions about what would would happen if we put different objects in the liquids. A metal washer sunk to the bottom underneath the corn syrup. A grape went down and rested on top of the corn syrup in the water level. A bottle cap rested on top of the water in the oil layer. Finally, a sponge rested on top of the oil layer. So fun! Next, we each completed a color mixing experiment on paper! It was so neat to take a few colors and make more colors by mixing them together! After that, we did a hidden handprint painting craft using turmeric and hand sanitizer paint on baking soda and water handprints. Next we built structures with paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks, and bear manipulatives. Then we played with the light table, color mixing jars, and colorful blocks on the carpet! We finished the day with yummy lunch with our friends and a fun back to school book! It was a great day!!
