ATTENTION ALL POTENTIAL MARCHING LEOPARDS!!!!!!
If you ever thought about playing an instrument and joining a high school band, now is your chance to be a part of the Absolute Best Band in the Land! I am pleased to announce the 2026 Blount High School Rookie Band Camp is on Tuesday, May 26th - 29th from 7:00 am - 12:00 noon in the BHS Band Room. This free music camp is designed to offer basic marching band fundamentals and music lessons to all potential BHS Band students. Even if you have never played an instrument before, transferring to Blount, are in the 7th or 8th grade, or going to the 9th grade and your school does not have a marching band program, we will teach you all the skills you need to become a successful member of the most awarded band in Mobile County, the Mattie T. The Mobile Area HBCU Experience includes a Dance Clinic on Friday & Saturday, April 3-4 at Bishop State Community College for all students grades 6-12. This clinic is designed to offer young dancers supplementary dance instruction from a former Southern University Dancing Doll and studio instructor, Connor McGrew. All skill levels are welcomed to participate so pass the word to any and everyone. We want to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever! ATTENTION, ATTENTION! I am pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Mobile Area HBCU Experience here in the Greater Mobile, AL area. This year's event will include High School Choral Scholarship Auditions! We will once again offer a two-day dance clinic (open to all students grades 6th-12th), high school band scholarship auditions, and a drumline competition. The events will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2026 once again at the Downtown Campus of Bishop State Community College. Please see the attached flyer for more details. ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!!!! The Mattie Thomas Blount High School Band has raised the bar once again! On Wednesday March 4th, the BHS Band program made history, yet again. For the first time ever, two of our instrumental music ensembles performed at the 2026 District VII Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment. Not only is this a major accomplishment in itself (having 2 groups participate), but both ensembles received STRAIGHT SUPERIOR RATINGS! This is the top distinction awarded to instrumental music ensembles in the State of Alabama. I am very proud of the students, their parents, and my fantastic staff for all making this monumental accomplishment possible. I tell students all the time that anything worth having is worth working for. Well, this was definitely something we worked hard for over the past few months and it’s incredibly rewarding to reach our goal. At Blount High School, “Leopards set the example and do not get made into one”. I am truly honored to oversee such a wonderful group of individuals who can all work together to accomplish anything we set our minds to. On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the BHS Concert Band earned a Superior rating at the MCPSS District Band Assessment. This achievement reflects the ensemble’s continued commitment to growth, discipline, and musical excellence.
