ACUA, the green team and city officials will be conducting a recycling audit in the downtown area Sept. 2, 16 & 30.

The last time students at CCHS conducted their audit on 3 recycling collection days, residents in the Neighborhoods at Cedar Creek decreased recycling contamination by 43% and there was a 100% increase in the number of cardboard boxes that were broken down.

The audit is designed to educate the public about proper recycling techniques. Look for "Great Job" or "Oops" tags on your bins.

We're seeing some improvement in drought conditions. That said, drought doesn't just consider rainfall, but also reservoir levels, stream flows and ground water. Heavy rainfall has been good for reservoirs, but so much runs off that ground water levels aren't influenced as much.

If you have a newly planted street tree in front of your property, please consider supplementing the tree contractor’s weekly watering schedule by filling the tree gator bag whenever the weather gets hot and dry. Just look at the tree and it will tell you if it needs more water. They get sad-looking when they are thirsty.

Over the past 90 days, most of NJ has gotten an average amount of rainfall: with two critical exceptions, Cape May and Atlantic counties. These counties are the epicenter of the "Extreme Drought" afflicting the Garden State. Really, to break the drought, we'd need above average precipitation, like Salem County.
