SIUE SSHP President Ricky Jobe and ASHP Liaison Efrain Rivera represented SIUE at the ASHP Pharmacy Futures 2026 conference in STL, diving into cutting‑edge sessions, exploring innovative booths, and connecting with leaders in clinical pharmacy. They learned about emerging tech, AI in health‑system pharmacy, and the future of drug therapy!

The SIUE team of P2 students Karleigh Dahle Melsaether, Kameron Metzger, and Austin Burgio were finalists (Top 10 Nationally) in the ACCP Clinical Research Challenge for 2026!

🌟🎥 SIUE School of Pharmacy Faculty Spotlight Series: Dr. Beth Cady
Dr. Beth Cady is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and clinical pharmacy specialist in Infectious Diseases at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She also holds an adjunct appointment within the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. She has been with SIUE SOP since 2017 and has loved every minute being on faculty. She teaches ID content in the 2nd year therapeutics course as well as an infectious diseases elective in the third professional year. She annually precepts APPE students, PGY1 pharmacy residents, and a PGY2 ID resident at St. John’s Hospital. Her areas of interest include gram negative resistance, duration of antibiotic therapy, rapid diagnostics in ID, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Infectious diseases pharmacists Dr. Beth Cady and SIUE Alum, Dr. Alina Viteri, recently presented a collaborative research project at the MAD-ID/SIDP Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL.
The project, which highlighted the IMPACT project of two other SIUE alumnae-Drs. Samara Turasky and Samantha Beck, showcased the differences in antibiotic treatment durations of patients with gram negative bacteremia. Treatment durations were compared between two institutions-HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL, where Dr. Cady practices, and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock, AR, where Dr. Viteri practices. It was a great opportunity for our SIUE faculty, and alumni to connect and share research on a national stage!
Recent 2026 SOP alumna Dr. Lauren Wells brings her School of Pharmacy experience to life, sharing how hands‑on training, inspiring faculty, and a truly collaborative atmosphere fueled her passion for the field. She credits the tight‑knit SOP community for shaping her not just into a skilled pharmacist, but a confident, forward‑thinking leader ready to make an impact.

🌟🎥 SIUE School of Pharmacy Faculty Spotlight Series: Dr. Keith Hecht
Dr. Keith Hecht is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. In addition to his faculty appointment at SIUE, Dr. Hecht also provides clinical services in inpatient oncology at St. Luke's Hospital. Dr. Hecht is interested in various areas of oncology pharmacy practice including supportive care, patient education, and optimizing patient adherence with oncology medications. His research areas of interest include growth factor support, anti-infective use, and regimen optimization in oncology patients.
