Dear ENSC undergraduates,

There is an amazing job opportunity with the Nature Preserve Foundation.
The Nature Preserve Foundation partners with District 7 for a full time employee who subs in whatever classrooms need a sub on Mondays and Tuesdays (and initially other days, too). This person entices teachers to sign their classes up for field trips to the Watershed Nature Center (1st and 3rd grade) and then leads the field trips at the Watershed on TR mostly in the spring. On Wednesdays, the person is assigned to work from the Watershed Nature Center, scheduling and leading field trips for out-of-district, parochial and home school groups.

ENSC Graduates!

There is a new job opportunity with Environmental Operations Inc., in the industrial hygiene department. The position would include soil monitoring for VOCs, asbestos sampling, and lead sampling, among other things. The Job listing is linked below and is also in the ENSC Link tree.

ENSC graduates and upcoming graduates!

There are two job opportunities for The Missouri Botanical gardens.

One is for a science specialist, which is a technician-like position. This would entail mostly assisting with research related to a grant-funded project. Tasks would center around data collection and curation, as well as plant propagation. The other is for an ecological restoration technician, which would be a position which would entail participating in active landscape-scale restoration. This includes tasks like invasive species removal, seed collection, and prescribed fire.

Congrats to former ENSC graduate student Julie Okonya for receiving the Jim Dowcett Leadership Award from the Asher Foundation! Julie is currently pursuing her PhD in STEM Education at UT Austin. Congrats Julie! You make SIUE Envireonmental Sciences proud!

This past year Dr. Martinez was selected to be a River Scholar in the River Field Studies Network that gathers river scientists from all over the US to learn field teaching methods. The River Rendezvous began with a five day raft trip down the San Juan River in Utah. River Scholars learned to organize river trips for 20+ students, about swift water safety, and about the southern Colorado plateau while admiring the river scenery.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is hiring THREE natural resources fellowship interns. These PAID internships provide valuable, hands-on training with the goal of transitioning to a permanent position in the IDNR.
