I found this article interesting. The author sites many examples of inventions that did not make the mainstream.

Technology aimed to alert electric scooter riders of potential crashes started as an idea in a Michigan middle school classroom.

Bloomfield Hills Schools’ FIRST Robotics Competition team received a patent for its collision alert system and methods for micro-mobility vehicles on April 11. The team designed the system after learning about electric scooter crashes.

The team competed in the Michigan State Robotics competition with its demonstration model Razor Worldwide kick scooter, LEGO robot controller and ultra-sonic sensor. Representatives from Razor were so impressed they sent the team two electric scooters for the team to use in a prototype for their collision alert system.

The team was supported by the Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science and a grant from the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform.

These young innovators prove that you can do anything with hard work, resilience, and determination! Congratulations!
