Hello friends,
Our SIUE Mass Communications family is saddened by the passing of long time professor, Dr. Riley Maynard. We remember him a remarkable teacher-scholar whose passion and dedication left an indelible mark on his students. In his SIUE career of 33 years, Dr. Maynard taught hundreds of students who went on to successful careers in television, broadcast, and media production in the St. Louis Metro Area and beyond.
Everyone that knew Riley, has a Riley story. He was a remarkable man whose impact will endure as a testament to his enduring dedication and passion for helping his students. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
His family have suggested an event to honor Dr. Maynard on the SIUE campus in October. An official obituary will soon be posted. We shall keep everyone posted.
In 2021, the Department of Mass Communication created the "Riley Maynard in Excellence in Media Production Award." Dr. Maynard's wish is for the award to continue financially helping students. The memorial page below contains directions about how you can donate to the award.
Please reach out to the Department Chair, Prof. Musonda Kapatamoyo if you have any questions.
