It is with deep sadness that I tell you of the passing of Dr. Alice Prince, Emeritus Professor of Health Education (now SIUE Public Health). Alice was a mentor and friend to me when I arrived as a young professor and parent. She took me under her wing, generously sharing resources, support, and advice on both life and work.
She dedicated her career to inspiring students to pursue meaningful work in health education, challenging them to question power structures, recognize inequality, and work toward a just and healthy society. An early HIV/AIDS educator, she brought compassion, honesty, and advocacy to her teaching and deeply believed in democracy, fairness, and the power of people.
A non-traditional student and parent herself, she persevered to earn her PhD. Later, she and her friends founded the SIUE Alice Prince Award, a yearly scholarship supporting non-traditional public health students. She loved travel, art, and the friendships and family that enriched her life.
Her impact on students, colleagues, and public health is immeasurable. I had lunch with her last summer, and she was as she always was—unique, outspoken, elegant, and above all, honest and true.
For those whose lives she touched, I know this news is difficult to hear. Her legacy lives on through the countless students she mentored and the work they continue to do to improve health and equity in our communities.

We've been quite busy lately! SIUE Public Health is addressing the growing need for Community Health Workers (projected to increase 21% by 2030) with a new initiative:

√ Free, Online 80-Hour CHW Training: Open to individuals with a high school diploma/GED, this program prepares you for part- or full-time work in public health.

√ Tuition Reimbursement: Participants who successfully complete the training and enroll in SIUE's Public Health degree program can receive tuition reimbursement.

√ Career Advancement: Work as a CHW while earning your degree, gaining valuable experience and opening doors to a variety of public health professions.

Yes, the rumors are true! SIUE is an accredited university, but Public Health went the extra mile. Our BSPH was first accredited years ago and now our MPH program is as well. Now accepting 2023 MPH applications until March 1st, no GRE required. Dual MPH/MBA or MPH/PharmD programs are open as well.

Congratulations to our Public Health program for achieving accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Both the Bachelor of Science in Public Health and the Master of Public Health degree programs in the Public Health Program as SIUE are now officially accredited. .publichealth SIUE Public Health

Lifestyle factors play a major role in the development of a fetus and the health of the mother. There are plenty of ways to decrease or increase certain factors that contribute to either a successful or risky pregnancy. Post-Partum Depression affects millions of women each year. It is a big factor that plays a big part in women’s life after the birth of their children. There are many symptoms that can occur that may detect postpartum depression. Many women experience the same symptoms.
