ALUMNI UPDATE: AUGUST HARTUNG 🎓🩰

August Hartung was a student of Olympic Ballet School from 2018-2021. Upon his high school graduation, he danced with Olympic Ballet Theatre for an additional year as a trainee. In the fall of 2022, August began his apprenticeship with Ballet Tucson, Southern Arizona’s professional ballet company.

Just a short two years later, he was promoted to the corps de ballet, and this past season was further promoted to Demi Soloist.

Through the help of Olympic Ballet School’s training, August developed skills that carry over into his professional career today.

“Olympic Ballet School provided me with a strong classical ballet foundation that paved the way for my career as a dancer,” he said. “I learned the skills necessary to dance a broad range of styles while maintaining the artistic integrity necessary to dance in a company.”

Additionally, performing with OBT also inspired him to pursue a professional career.

“My favorite memory was when we would perform Nutcracker in both Edmonds and Everett. Each weekend of shows was so much fun for all of us as students, while we also got to experience the professional environment of performing.”

As August keeps growing as a professional ballet dancer, he noted the importance of staying curios about ballet, on and off the stage.

“Take class as much as you can, watch other dancers in videos and on stage or in the studio, immerse yourself in ballet when you can. It’s a rare art form we get to be a part of and get the opportunity to truly dedicate ourselves to.”

We are so proud of you, August! 🌟

ALUMNI UPDATE: ALISON WALTERS🎓🩰

Alison Walters attended Olympic Ballet School for 11 years, beginning her OBS journey in 2009 until 2020. She then wrapped up her last year of pre-professional training at Colorado Ballet Academy in 2021.

In 2021, Colorado Ballet promoted her to Studio Company, dancing alongside Main Company dancers in a variety of productions. In 2023, she made her transition back to Washington to join Olympic Ballet Theatre as a trainee. She is now a company dancer with OBT and noted the core memories she made as a student, she now gets to see younger generation of OBS students.

“It’s so wonderful to be in the position I am, watching the next generation of OBS ballerinas perform roles I did at their age. It inspires me to be present and to always be grateful for the opportunity to dance.”

OBS presented a space to soar as a dancer with numerous opportunities to perform in full length productions at a young age. “My class was a small tightly knit group of equally ambitious dancers which allowed me and my classmates to receive individualized instruction, competition coaching, and mentorship beyond the studio.”

As Alison navigates the role of a professional ballet dancer, she emphasizes the importance of healthy goals, “Healthy competition does not come from comparison, it comes from creating deep bonds with your classmates that will last a lifetime.”

Keep shining, Alison!
