Heart Studios is an organization in the Oklahoma City community focused on creating a platform for local art through education and awareness. Heart Studios also provides art classes to children ages 5 - 18, and ages 5 - 21 for special needs students.

🎨✨ Our group art classes combine individual creativity with personalized instruction!

🖌️ Heart Studios’ group art classes give students the opportunity to work on their own individual projects while creating alongside other young artists!

🎨 Students can explore mediums like acrylic, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastel, mixed media, sculpture, and more. Throughout class, the teacher circulates around the room, providing each student with one-on-one instruction and guidance as they work on their individual projects.

✨ This allows students to explore their own artistic interests and grow at their own pace while still enjoying the creativity and community of a group class.

🎨✨ Meet Jan van Eyck! ✨🎨

Jan van Eyck (about 1390 to 1441) was a Flemish painter and one of the most influential artists of the Northern Renaissance. 🖌️✨ He became famous for his remarkable attention to detail, realistic textures, and skillful use of oil paint to create rich colors and lifelike surfaces.

One of his most famous paintings, The Arnolfini Portrait (1434), shows a man and woman standing inside a carefully detailed room. 🖼️ Every part of the painting, from the clothing and furniture to the tiny reflections in the mirror, demonstrates van Eyck's incredible ability to capture texture, light, and detail. The painting is also filled with objects that scholars have interpreted as symbolic.

🎨✨ Meet Bridget Riley! ✨🎨

Bridget Riley (1931 to 2026) was a British artist and one of the leading figures of the Op Art movement. 👀🎨 She became known for creating bold geometric patterns that play with the way our eyes see movement, depth, and space.

One of her most famous works, Movement in Squares (1961), is made entirely from black and white squares. ◻️◼️ As the squares gradually become narrower toward the center, the flat surface appears to bend, shift, and move. Riley showed how simple changes in shape and spacing could create a powerful optical illusion.

Her artwork reminds us that artists can experiment with more than color and realistic images. Line, shape, pattern, and repetition can completely change the way we experience a work of art. ✨

🎈🎨 Learning about art history can be fun! ✨

🖌️ Our students learned about contemporary artist Jeff Koons, best known for his colorful Balloon Dog sculptures. Although they look like giant balloon animals, Koons’ sculptures are actually made from polished stainless steel! 🎈

🎨 To make learning about Koons even more fun, our students made their own balloon dogs! It was such a fun, hands on way to learn about an artist and connect his work to something they could create themselves. ❤️

🎨✨ Meet Rosa Bonheur! ✨🎨

Rosa Bonheur (1822 to 1899) was a French Realist painter best known for her incredibly detailed paintings of animals. 🐴✨ She spent countless hours studying horses, cattle, and other animals to capture their movement, strength, and personality with remarkable accuracy.

✨ One of her most famous paintings, The Horse Fair (1852 to 1855), depicts a lively horse market in Paris filled with powerful draft horses being led through the streets. Bonheur carefully observed the animals in real life, allowing her to paint them with incredible realism and energy. The painting became an international success and remains one of the most celebrated animal paintings in history.🎨

🎨✨ Meet Henry Ossawa Tanner! ✨🎨

Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859 to 1937) was an American painter and the first African American artist to gain international recognition. 🖼️✨ He was known for his realistic paintings, masterful use of light, and powerful scenes that celebrated everyday life, faith, and dignity.

🖼️ One of his most beloved paintings, The Banjo Lesson (1893), shows an older man patiently teaching a young boy how to play the banjo. 🎶 Rather than portraying stereotypes that were common at the time, Tanner painted a heartfelt moment of learning, family, and tradition. His use of warm lighting and careful details helps the viewer feel the love and connection between the two figures.🎨
