This week in Science with School Age our students had a blast creating bouncy eggs using eggs, vinegar, food coloring, and spoons!

Did you know that eggshells are made of a mineral called calcium carbonate? When an egg is submerged in vinegar, the acetic acid in the vinegar reacts with the calcium carbonate, causing the shell to dissolve. The bubbles students observed were actually carbon dioxide gas being released during the chemical reaction!

As the shell dissolves, the vinegar passes through the egg’s membrane through a process called osmosis. This allows water to move into the egg, causing it to swell and become slightly larger than a normal egg. The result? A colorful, squishy, and bouncy egg that demonstrates both chemistry and biology in action!

Our students absolutely love our visits from Bounce’n Beethovens! 🎶 From singing and dancing to interactive music and movement activities, these special visits bring so much joy, laughter, and learning to our classrooms. Watching our students engage, express themselves, and have fun while learning through music is always a highlight of our day!
