UCO GEAR UP

UCO GEAR UP GEAR UP is a federally-funded grant designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to It’s that simple.

GEAR UP is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a federally-funded grant designed to increase the number of cohort students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. In partnership with public schools, higher education, communities, financial institutions, and business organizations the University of Central Oklahoma’s GEAR

UP Central grant will work together to provide students and their families with a range of support services needed to prepare for college. GEAR UP Central has partnered with 4 area school districts to provide opportunities for current students in the 7th grade (Class of 2020). GEAR UP will provide support for these students as they progress through middle school, high school, and into their first year of college. All GEAR UP activities and services are at no cost to the student, parent, teacher, or school administration! In order to become enrolled, eligible students must complete a GEAR UP enrollment form and return to their school.

For the third consecutive year, every Mid-Del student will receive FREE breakfast and lunch through the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)!

This program ensures every student has access to healthy, nutritious meals at no cost to families, helping them stay fueled, focused, and ready to learn each day.

Starting today, Pell Grants can now be used for certain trade and workforce training program! Opening doors for people who want skills, certifications, and careers in high demand fields without the burden of full tuition debt for 8-15 week courses!

This includes programs like HVAC, welding, CDL trucking, plumbing, electrical work, CNA, medical tech, IT, and other approved workforce certifications.

This is a real opportunity for people who want to build a career quickly and step into stable, good-paying jobs through skilled trades. Not every program qualifies, but many approved workforce pathways now fall under federal aid.

Education isn’t only about a 4 year degree anymore. This is about access, skills, and getting to work. In order to build on our role in contributing to the betterment and success of our city, OCU has created the OKCPS Scholarship to help make college more affordable for Oklahoma City Public Schools students.

The scholarship goes into effect for the fall 2026 semester for first-year OCU students from OKCPS majoring in Arts & Sciences, Business or Nursing.
