Sarah Wheatley, our Oklahoma State Champion for POL 2026, had the incredible opportunity to represent Oklahoma at the POL Nationals in Washington, D.C. alongside her teacher Paul Baker and Jessica Switzer, our POL coordinator. During their trip, they were able to speak with Representative Stephanie Bice, connect with students from across the country, and experience an unforgettable week of leadership, learning, and fun. What a great day to recite poetry! We hosted the Oklahoma State Poetry Out Loud contest on March 4 and now have a winner who will advance to the national competition!
Twenty-three students competed, and Sarah Wheatley, a junior from Bethany High School (featured in the 1st and 5th slides), took first place. Our runner-up is Collin Walters, (featured in the 4th slide), a senior from Broken Arrow High School representing the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry.
We are so impressed by the students’ hard work, talent, and passion for the arts!
