Ms. Tucker and Mrs. Chavez's 8th-grade science class investigated how mass and drop height affect the amount of damage caused during a collision. Students tested how changing the variables impacted the results of their sugar glass. They collected data, compared their trials, and used evidence to determine which combination produced the most and least amount of damage.

A fun hands-on way to explore forces, motion, energy, and collisions!

Ms. Tucker and Mrs. Chavez's 8th-grade science class started off unit one by exploring inertia, an object's tendency to resist changes in its motion. Students investigated Newton's First Law by observing how objects behave when forces are applied (or not applied). Through this hands-on activity, they saw that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

Sequoyah scientists are at it again with the 8th grade Collision Lab. Students studied Newton's First Law by testing different object collisions from different heights into sugar glass.

Our mathematicians worked together to explore Greatest Common Factor using hands-on manipulatives, problem-solving, and plenty of mathematical discussion. Mrs. O’Bannon and Ms. Bell loved seeing students share strategies, explain their thinking, and learn from one another. Math is better when we work together!
