🍬 Math was looking a little sweeter today! 🌈

Students used Skittles to make place value more hands-on and meaningful by representing both whole numbers and decimals. With a little color (and a lot of candy), students were able to visually see how the value of a digit changes depending on its place!

Who knew place value could be this sweet?!

On Friday, we celebrated our first Summit Celebration of the year, and our students showed UP in their team colors! 🎉 We cheered on our Campers of the Month for cooperation and celebrated Team Yosemite and Team Hot Springs for taking home the Golden Antler! 🦌🏆

So much team spirit, so many smiles, and such a fun way to celebrate our kiddos!

Today I was sent this picture and I have to share this. This month at DCIS, the emphasis is on cooperation and the social skill is introducing yourself.
A little context- the boys came up to a teacher and said “my friend and I….” The teacher stopped them and asked, “Do you know his name?” And giggling they realized they had been playing together this whole time and didn’t know each other’s names!! This teacher took this moment to practice the social skill that is SO IMPORTANT!! This is what our teachers do! It’s not all about academics- we teach LIFE SKILLS!! We take the time with each of our students because it matters!!!
