We celebrated Read Across America with a school-wide Drop Everything And Read outside event. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful moment to know that our students were relaxing with a good book!

[03/04/21]   To celebrate Read Across America Week, we will have an outdoor drop-everything-and-read (DEAR) time at 2:30. We invite you to join us in spirit and drop everything you are doing and find something to read at the same time. Then share a selfie or at least the title of the book that you read in the comment section! Happy reading!

“A people without the knowledge of their past history is like a tree without roots.” Marcus Garvey

Even though Black History Month is coming to an end, the celebration of those who have come before us and those who continue to pioneer the way will stay close in our hearts at Jane Edwards Elementary.

This fall the CD class planted broccoli plants outside their playground. We watched them grow and grow. Finally after months of waiting the broccoli was ready to harvest. It was so exciting! Almost everyone in the class had more than one helping of fresh broccoli and some had three or four. We are hoping to do more planting in the early spring.

We Can Read Signs!, a project from Ms. Burns

Our CD teacher, Ms. Burns, has a Donors Choose project that needs funding. She is asking for road signs for the tricycle roadway and indoor buildings and vehicles to enhance the CD block center. These help support her units on signs and symbols and community helpers. Even if you are unable to donate at this time, would you please share her project with your Facebook friends. She would love to have this project funded before the unit is over!

Today, the organization, Going Places, came out one more time to deliver one more bike. This bike was specially made for our CD friend, Ellie. Have fun cruisin’ on your new bike, Ellie!

12/11/2020

Our students had a pleasant surprise yesterday morning when the organization, Going Places, conducted their Bicycle Reveal. Along with the bicycle, each student received a helmet and a bicycle lock. The reveal was presented live (in the classroom) to our 2nd graders through Zoom and then broadcasted to the remainder of the school. Our 3rd graders got to try out their new bikes on the basketball court! Thank you, Going Places, for providing all of our students at Jane Edwards such an amazing gift!

[12/07/20]   Our MAP Reading test is tomorrow, and MAP Math is Wednesday. Please have your child get a good night’s sleep both tonight and tomorrow night. If your child chooses not to eat breakfast at school, please have him or her eat a good breakfast at home. You can also help by encouraging your child to take his time on the test and do her best.
