Here comes the bride down...the aisles of the library bookshelves? That's right; in October of 1972, the MC library had its very own wedding! Peggy Valenti, the library director's secretary at the time, was the blushing bride, pictured here with friends and family (some of whom were library employees!). July 20th is International Moon Day!

This global observance commemorates the historic 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, when astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface. International Moon Day highlights the ongoing importance of space exploration, and the "international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space" (UN.org).

Keep the sea plastic free! Take the plastic free pledge!

Check out our display in front of the ask-a-librarian desk, on the library upper level, to learn about the harmful affects plastic has on our oceans, and how you can make a difference!

"This July, [the Plastic Free Foundation urges you to] choose one plastic item to refuse, from single-use cups to plastic bottles or packaged produce, and make a pledge as an individual or with friends, family, classmates, colleagues, or your community. Check out our "America 250" book display next to the ask-a-librarian desk on the library upper level!

In 2026, America celebrates its "semiquincentennial" (250 years of independence)! This historic milestone invites us to reflect on the nation's journey since 1776, honoring the democratic foundations and diverse voices that have shaped our story. Now is as great a time as any to reflect on the complex history of the country, and the enduring aspirations to uphold the democratic foundations of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" for every American.

This display has something for everyone! From primary documents like Thomas Paine's "Common Sense;" biographies of founding fathers like Washington and Jefferson; fine art depicting the American Revolution; and lesser-known individuals and stories from the early history of the country!

Men’s Health Month highlights the critical need for proactive medical care. This observance serves to break the stigma of silence surrounding health struggles, encouraging men to prioritize regular screenings and open conversations about their physical and mental well-being.
