I am cancelling Wednesday's meeting. I know Turkey Day prep is stressful, so enjoy your holiday! ALSO! We have our potluck on December 3rd! Any questions, message me!
ALSO! Friday, November 7th is the Deaf Coffee Chat at the Starbucks at the food court in the Menlo Park Mall at 6:30. If you want to come practice, or meet other ASL students, come by! Great atmosphere, great crowd! Have a Happy Halloween!
Our bake sale was a success! Thank you to everyone who contributed either goodies or time! This wouldn't have been successful with all your help! Remember, next meeting is Tuesday, November 4th at 2pm in CC 310.
Check it out!
Hey everyone! Check your Campus Cruiser! I'm currently updating the club page and you'll see the meeting dates on there as well as events!
A message from our advisor, Professor Samelson:
"All:
I regret to report that due to low ticket sales the September 27, 2014 Movie Night sponsored by the Northwest Jersey Association of the Deaf and the MCC ASL Club has been cancelled. We truly appreciate the time and commitment each individual, department and organization invested to try to reach our goal.
Middlesex County College was generous and accommodating in allowing use of the MCC Performing Arts Center. We would specifically like to thank Pat Daily for her guidance and willingness to assist. Dani Resto, ASL Club president, worked overtime to lead the ASL Club on this project and we thank you and your committee for all you accomplished.
Sincerely,
Martin Samelson"
Thank you to those for coming to yesterday’s meeting! I have just a quick update and some reminders for you all!
The ASL Movie Night is only 9 DAYS AWAY! If you intend to volunteer, or have someone that wants to volunteer, I am giving a deadline of September 23rd to give me contact information so I can reach you (or the person who wants to volunteer) and/or confirmation of your intent to volunteer. I am giving myself a deadline of the day before to give you all your positions so this way when we get to campus, we will all know our duties and there will be less confusion – this means, expect a separate e-mail from me personally between the 23rd and the 27th with your tasks. WE STILL NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS! Please, recruit recruit RECRUIT! The more volunteers, the smoother this event will run.
As a reminder, if you plan to watch the movie after your task is finished, you must pay for you ticket. Tuesday, September 23rd is the LAST DAY you can get your ticket for $10. After the 23rd, ticket prices GO UP to $13/ticket. Professor Gray still has tickets on her, so contact her ([email protected]) so you can meet up with her on campus to get your ticket.
We also discussed briefly the Halloween bake sale! Thursday, October 30th from 11 to 2. After the movie night is said and done, I will be discussing volunteering options at the bake sale. Just as an FYI, the college policy on bake sales is that no one can actually “bake” things. Someone in the meeting said “pseudo-bake sale,” which is completely correct, haha. Last year, we did bake sales and we had to buy our things at places like Costco or Shoprite, and still made a profit. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. I’ll explain this further when it comes time.
We also discussed the 3rd Annual Big Apple American Sign Language Expo and Festival in New York. I have shared the details on the club’s page (facebook.com/mccaslclub), so check it out! Thanks, Chelsea, for letting us know about it!
Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 23rd at 2pm in College Center 310. Hope to see you there!
- Dani Resto, President.

To all that need to complete a Diversity elective for their major: As you may know, Deaf Culture and History (ASL 223) is offered at MCC. It is a Fall II course, meaning it starts September 22nd. It is on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11 to 1240. It is taught primarily in voice, has plenty of open seats. Take it into consideration! :)
Hey all! Remember: If you plan to volunteer for the ASL Movie night (September 27th, 6pm), you MUST come to the Movie Committee meeting TOMORROW at 10am til 1pm, in IRC 204. This meeting will be hosted by Professor Margaux Gray. Any questions, feel free to contact me!
Remember! Tomorrow is our first meeting! 10am in College Center 310!
Quick reminder! Our FIRST meeting (technically) of the semester is NEXT MONDAY! August 25th, @ 10a! See you there! :)
