Hundreds of Middlesex County community members gathered to celebrate the most colorful time of year at Middlesex College’s annual HarvestFest.

The event featured a wide variety of family-friendly activities for those of all ages to enjoy including food trucks, music, a magic show, horse-drawn carriage rides, inflatable games, a classic car show, and a choose-your-own pumpkin patch.

Attendees were also invited to explore all that Middlesex College has to offer, including credit and noncredit degree and certificate programs, as well as student clubs. ➡️ Continue reading: https://bit.ly/4k3Csdc

At the first Honors Faculty Symposium of the academic year, Natural Sciences Professor Moe Tabanli invited colleagues to explore big scientific ideas through everyday objects and hands-on activities.

In Magnets, Breaking Points and Quantum Ideas, participants used coins, dice, magnets, lasers, and other simple materials to examine how scientists describe behavior that can seem surprising or difficult to picture.

Professor Tabanli also shared classroom activities designed to help students connect scientific ideas to their history and real-world applications. After the presentation, attendees explored the projects and exchanged ideas about incorporating these hands-on activities into their own teaching.

The tapestry of Middlesex College is woven with vibrant threads of diversity and culture that the College community takes pride in celebrating. One of the many student organizations that was forged upon this diversity is the Organization for Latino Unity (OLU), which strives to embolden and elevate the Latino/a/x leaders of tomorrow.

“I’ve never been in such an environment like Middlesex College where everyone that you meet, whether it’s your peers, professors, all the way to the top at administration, are so incredibly supportive and empathetic,” said OLU President Chris Saavedra. “That support strikes at the very heart of what OLU does – inspire and mentor student leaders, while at the same time, being a hub to celebrate the cultural richness and diversity that defines the Latin American and Hispanic world.”

Hey everyone! My name is Oriana, and I’m in my final year studying Business Administration. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in many different ways. I’m the president of the Tri-Alpha Honor Society, a board member of Organization of Latino Unity, and a work-study student on campus.

Coming to Middlesex College has been one of the best experiences of my life. It has given me a sense of belonging and support and has helped me develop skills that I know I’ll carry with me beyond college. Being involved on campus has also allowed me to meet amazing people, become more confident, and grow both personally and professionally. I’m excited to make the most of my final year and continue creating meaningful connections and experiences along the way.

During my time here, I’ve learned that college is so much more than just going to class. Getting involved, meeting new people, and taking advantage of different opportunities have become a big part of my experience. There’s always something going on in my day, whether I’m in class, working, attending a meeting, or just spending time around campus. So, come along with me and see a little bit of what my day looks like!

Holly Elliott graduated from Middlesex College in 2019 with a degree in Education. Unsure of what she wanted to study after high school, Holly chose Middlesex after qualifying for the NJ STARS Scholarship Program, allowing her to live at home and work while earning her degree.

Today, Holly works as an early childhood coach at Prevent Child Abuse New Jersey through the Grow New Jersey Kids program. She evaluates preschool curricula to help ensure programs are in compliance with New Jersey’s preschool rollout.

During her time at Middlesex, Holly also connected Professor Pattiann McMahon with the Teen Parent Summit, where members of our Kappa Delta Pi honor society researched best practices for early literacy, presented the information to teen parents and collected books so each parent could leave with at least seven books to start their home library.

We’re proud to see the impact Holly continues to make in early childhood education and the community.
