Health, wellness, and community in San Carlos. π§‘
UT Health RGVβs Area Health Education Center in San Carlos helped celebrate National Public Health Week with a community Pachanga that brought together local organizations, volunteers, students, and families.
Community members connected with free health screenings, educational resources, food bank support, and a day filled with culture, music, and movement.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a meaningful celebration of public health in the Rio Grande Valley. π

From UTRGV to NASA, Michael Tran has gone the distance. π
Michael is a fourth-year UTRGV School of Medicine student who completed a prestigious NASA Aerospace Medicine Clerkship at Johnson Space Center, studying the science of keeping astronauts alive in space.
Now matched into internal medicine at Houston Methodist, he is preparing to walk the stage May 9.

Courtney Austin is showing what's possible in medicine. π§‘
Courtney is a fourth-year UTRGV School of Medicine student who is deaf, and she has matched into pediatrics at UC San Francisco. She is using her journey to advocate for greater accessibility and representation in healthcare.β¨
Her advice: "Don't focus on what you can't do. Focus on how you can do it."

Courtney Austin, MS4, is a soon-to-be physician with a mission to serve the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. β¨π©Ί
After losing her hearing at age 4, Courtney never let that stop her from chasing her dream of becoming a doctor.
Now she's steps away from the finish line, with her sights set on serving that same community as an ENT surgeon.
She recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show to share her story. π§‘
