Intercultural Studies Program Our goal at the Intercultural Studies Program is to prepare missionaries linguistically, culturally and spiritually for the Spanish-speaking world.

The Intercultural Studies Program (previously known as the Missionary Language School) has been privileged to teach appointees from 50 different missionary sending organizations. For those who make the long trip to South Texas each year, Rio Grande means 9 months of intense Spanish study. The eager missionaries are saturated with the grammar, phonetics, conversation, and culture of Latin America. Spanish-speaking Bible Institute students become their tutors, helping to personalize what they study in the classroom. The program of class work, attendance at Hispanic churches, interaction in the local culture, and friendship with the Bible Institute students is a winning combination to prepare them for ministering in Spanish. While all our students participate in chapel, some volunteer to use their gifts in worship. It’s a great opportunity to serve the Lord while also practicing Spanish through worship songs, rehearsals, and serving alongside Spanish-speaking students and staff.
