Joseph Catholic School, a pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade Catholic Elementary and Middle School under the Diocese of Brownsville Catholic Schools Office, was established in 1954. The curriculum stresses academic achievement within a Christian community where the child feels that he/she is loved and respected by his/her peers as well as the teacher. United with each other in meaningful liturgy and prayer, the students can further come to an understanding of the Christian life. Joseph Catholic School, we are attempting to teach as Jesus did. The Diocesan curriculum standards, consistent with the State of Texas guidelines, are followed for the teaching of all secular subject areas. The curriculum is marked by current content and fresh approaches to methodology. There is emphasis on principles rather than facts; on learning through problem solving rather than by precept. We strive to offer a program which makes use of many sources of reading material, a wide variety of audio-visual and technology tools and a multi-text approach to the content areas.

Students, parents, families, faculty, and staff walked around our neighborhood, school, and parish, and spread joy that comes from a united community and diocesan Catholic school system! Our St. Joseph Catholic School students did a great job at the District PSIA competition! Most of our students who competed ranked in the top six of their competitions, and many of our students are state competitors or state alternates. We are extremely appreciative of Ms. Santos for overseeing the competition and event on campus, to our teachers who coached different events, and to the parents who gave of their time and energy all day to have a successful event! Now we look forward to the State PSIA Meet April 18!

Last week Msgr. Brum celebrated Holy Mass with our school community on Thursday. Our Kinder students took ownership of the Vocation Chalice as we continue to pray for all vocations in our diocese and around the world. Out students did a great job with their liturgical leadership and service roles as lectors, cantors, altar servers, and gift bearers. As always, we donated food that goes to our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry to help those in our community that are experiencing food insecurity.

Families and parishioners are invited to pray with us. It's a great and ancient Catholic way to stretch our spiritual muscles as we journey with Jesus through his suffering and death.
