To My South Middle School Mariachi Students,

Tonight, I stand with you in spirit at Carnegie Hall in New York City! Not only as your principal, but as someone who is incredibly proud of you.

What you accomplished tonight will forever be a part of South Middle School history. Years from now, people will remember this moment, your performance, your dedication, and the pride you brought to our school and community.

But remember—this achievement isn’t just South’s history. It’s your history. This is a memory and accomplishment that will stay with you for the rest of your lives.

Tonight, all the stars above New York City and all the stars above Edinburg, Texas, shine brightly for you.

I want to thank Mr. Amaro for his leadership, passion, and belief in each of you. Because of his guidance and your hard work, you have accomplished something truly special.

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, we want to give everyone advance notice regarding an important update to our dress code. For student safety and campus security, hoodies and jacket pullovers with printed designs will no longer be permitted. All hoodie jackets must have a front zipper and be a solid color. We recommend the following colors by grade level:
6th Grade: Gray
7th Grade: Blue
8th Grade: Black
We are sharing this information now so families have plenty of time to purchase the required hoodies before the start of next school year. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment at South Middle School.

Teachers and staff showed up in their underwater theme gear and made today so much fun! Because honestly… is it really work when you’re having this much fun? 💙🖤

From preparing for Nationals, to competing on the national stage, to celebrating together at Main Event — what an unforgettable journey for our SMS Chess Team ♟️🖤 💙

Out of 35 schools from across the nation, our team placed 22nd overall, competing alongside 1,250 students nationwide at the tournament. So proud of the dedication, focus, teamwork, and heart these students showed every step of the way.
