The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Empowered Educator (E2) Program for 21st Century Teaching has received the 2024 American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Best Practice Award for the Innovative Use of Technology. Drs. Leticia De Leon, Rene Corbeil, and Maria Elena Corbeil will be honored at the AACTE 2024 Annual Meeting on February 15, 2024, in Denver, Colorado.

The award recognizes programs that "use technologies to stretch beyond what might normally be done in its educator preparation programs; the programs must have changed in some way as a result of the technology use and integration." (AACTE Best Practice Award for the Innovative Use of Technology).

The E2 Program is an innovative digital pedagogy initiative created to empower teacher candidates to excel in a dynamic and technology-driven educational landscape. The program stands out by not just introducing digital tools, but by focusing on integrating technology in pedagogically appropriate ways to enhance teaching practices and student engagement.
