Migratory students from Mercedes, IDEA, Los Fresnos, and Triumph RGV were assisted with a JC Penny Voucher to purchase school clothing. The Migrant Education Program is able to provide students who have an identified need with both academic and supplemental services, such as tutoring, school supplies, or clothing. At today's clothing distribution, services were offered to over 100 students. Thank you JCPenny for collaborating with us in this event

The Migrant Education Program (MEP) supports school districts in ensuring quality education programs for migratory children are provided.
MEP helps ensure that migratory children who move among the states are not penalized in any manner by disparities.

Texas was represented at NASDME, the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education Conference in Portland, Oregon. There are over 1,500 participants in attendance who have some connection to Migrant Education Programs across the United States. A great opportunity to learn and network.
Congratulations to Ximena Ventura from Lasara ISD. One of the migrant students who was presented with the Albright Lee Wright Jr. Scholarship of 5 thousand dollars at the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME) Conference.
Ximena plans to attend UT Austin with a business major. Her career goal is to be a business entrepreneur with the dream of one day having her own business.

Region One Education Service Center MEP staff celebrating Read Across America Week.

Last week Dr. Milton Gonzalez presented at the Migrant PAC Regional Leadership Spring Training. He spoke to our parents on developing stronger relationships with our children and connecting as leaders within those we serve. Parents also were empowered on how to be better prepared for Parent-Teacher Conferences and were given resources they could share with other migratory parents in their community.

Collaborating with UMOS Program on their Food Farm Worker Relief Grant and distributing services for our migrant farmworker families at Region One.
Close to 100 people attended our event, equaling to approximately $60,000 in qualified funding.

The Farm and Food Worker Relief (FFWR] Program provides $600 relief payments
to eligible farm and food workers who incurred expenses preparing for, preventing
exposure to, and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Agricultural and meatpacking workers may receive one relief payment per person if
they worked in an eligible front-line job in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic
(between January 20, 2020, and March 11, 2023].

Our MEP System Specialist, Magdalena Ojeda presented at the Region One Education Service Center 13th Annual Assessment Conference on Using Targeted DMAC Data to Support Migratory Students. Thank you Ms. Ojeda for providing such valuable information.
Region One Education Service Center Migrant Education Program took part in the TEA Migrant ESC Cluster Meeting alongside Region 2 and Region 20. The purpose of the cluster meeting was to provide TEA with feedback on best practices in our regions and to connect and collaborate with other ESC staff across the state. The Association for Migrant Educators of Texas had a Fun Run followed by a Tailgate. Over 75 participants were in attendance. We would like to thank A Royal Celebration in Alamo, Tx for providing the giant fun games! We had a blast!

The Association for Migrant Educators of Texas 2023 Conference was beautified by the parent volunteers from PSJA ISD Kennedy Middle School & Palmer Elementary. They showed up to the McAllen Convention Center the day before to set up. Conference participants arrived to see two balloon arches, 2 photo booth areas, set up for stage, and table centerpieces that went with our conference theme, Portraits of Excellence! Thank you PSJA Parental Engagement Program for your assistance. We are so appreciative of your time and dedication.
Congratulations to John Alvarez from Donna High School and Yaneli Segovia from Weslaco High School for winning the Association for Migrant Educators of Texas Essay Writing Scholarship Contest. They will received a $1,000 scholarship towards their college of choice.
