Welcome to the Official UTRGV Army ROTC Vaqueros Program Page

Army ROTC began operation at our University on March 31, 1980 as an extension center of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M -Kingsville). However, enrollment grew at such an unprecedented rate that the University of Texas-Pan American became a host ROTC institution on October 1, 1981. A host ROTC institution at this university allows access to an Army officer program to students of the Lower Rio Grande Valley from Brownsville to Rio Grande City. Active Duty as well as Retired Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers serve as Cadre for this organization and are responsible for its operation. A Senior Army entitled Professor of Military Science, LTC Gerald Resmondo, heads the Department of Military Science. The department is a subordinate element of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

“We Win!”
It’s our new UTRGV ROTC espirit de corps campaign. Every time one of our cadets goes above and beyond or excels in any way, the cadet will be recognized in all our social media platforms. Our first “We Win” recognition goes to Cadet Jeremiah Garcia! He has been at Fort Knox for almost two months volunteering his time in support of Summer Camp, as well as, attending Basic Camp. Cadet Garcia returns next week. God Willing, he will take a few weeks off to enjoy some rest and recuperation. He starts the Fall Semester as an MSL2. For Cadet Garcia’s selfless service, we say “We Win!”

New ROTC Professor of Military Science MAJ Gerry Resmondo, was challenged for fun by incoming freshmen to do as many pushups as possible during orientation at the UTRGV Edinburg campus. The push-up event measures the endurance of the chest, shoulder, and triceps muscles.
