IU5 Family Support Center

IU5 Family Support Center The Family Support Center is a place for families to come for one-on-one support with the Special Education process or to obtain disability resources.

Each family is served based on their own individual needs and connected with someone who understands. About the Consultant

• The consultant is a parent of a child with special needs and understands the caregiver perspective
• Collaborates with caregivers and school staff as a liaison to support positive & effective communication
• Provides a strengths perspective
• Can coordinate resources specif

ic to the needs of each individual family
• Can provide support to caregivers by attending special education meetings if necessary
• Promotes the support center and represents caregivers through participation in various community groups and committees, such as the NWPA Local Right to Education Task Force
