In honor of Hispanic American Heritage month, children helped to cut strawberries and then mash them up to make cream cheese and strawberry pastelitos— a common treat in Latin America countries. The most common type is pastelitos de guayaba (guava), but we decided to use strawberries instead. Pastelitos can be enjoyed as a snack anytime of day but are typically eaten as a sweet breakfast treat. Yum! 🍓

What a great day to make a pledge to consume a bit less, walk and bike a bit more, plant a pollinator, create a compost pile (or sign up with your city if they offer it!), or take your child out into the amazing outdoors so that they are inspired to care for the earth as they grow.

Happy Earth Month! Tip of the week: help to ensure your recycling is successful by understanding what can be recycled in your county.

For instance: do not place recycling in a plastic bag, and check to see if your county accepts black plastic containers (many do not since the machines can't read the number). It can be helpful to post your county's guidelines in your household to double check accepted items!

Toys are great--they help children learn in so many ways! Unfortunately, they can also have a negative impact on our environment as they are difficult to recycle. 80% of toys end up in the trash.

In honor of Earth Month, we invite you to help us extend the life of the toys, books, and games your child no longer plays with. We are hosting a Used Toy Drive now through April 7. The children in our centers would love to play with and extend the life of the toys you are ready to part with. And we have some fun, experiential prizes associated with our Toy Drive.
