This year, family, friends, alumni, and supporters gathered once again for the 23rd Annual Amber Johnson Memorial Golf Outing, a tradition rooted in love, remembrance, and hope.

Amber Johnson '97 graduated from Thomas More University before courageously battling a brain tumor. She passed away in 2002 at just 26 years old, but her impact continues to be felt every day through the scholarship established in her memory.
What makes this tradition so special is watching Amber's legacy grow. The family and friends who started this outing more than two decades ago are now joined by nieces and nephews who never had the chance to meet Amber, yet proudly carry forward her story and her spirit. Together, they've created opportunities for generations of Thomas More students through the Amber Johnson Endowed Scholarship.

Thank you to the Johnson family and everyone who has supported this incredible tradition over the past 23 years. Amber's legacy continues to change lives, one student at a time.

Thomas More University recently honored five community members at the 28th annual Bishop William A. Hughes Award Dinner on Wed., Apr. 15, 2026. Sponsored by DBL Law, the awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated leadership in the community and made a significant impact on Catholic education. This year’s honorees were Louis (Lou) ’81 and Marilyn Esselman, Thomas Gilday ‘75, and Charles (Chuck) ’74 and Julie Geisen Sheper ‘76.

“We are thrilled to recognize the dedication this year’s recipients have to Thomas More, Catholic higher education, and the broader community, said Joseph L. Chillo, LP.D, President of Thomas More University. “They have selflessly given their time and talents to help others through leadership, mentoring, and service initiatives.
