South River Vo-Tech/CAT South has great numbers of students leave its grounds every year in hopes to find jobs in the trade they learned to become the future skilled workers in the

world. We are a group of former students, parents, teachers, and volunteers that have joined together to help support the SkillsUSA students at the Center of Applied Technology - South, in Edgewater, Maryland. The CAT-South SkillsUSA Alumni Supporters was founded in 2011 by Michelle Dugans and Bryan Granger as a way to provide students with the opportunity to network among peers who have successfully navigated into a career through the training offered at The Center of Applied Technology South in Edgewater Maryland. With its current organizational structure, students and alumni now have the ability to meet and gain the necessary experiences needed in today's competitive industries by sharing their experiences of success. It is with great sadness that we share with you news of the passing of our much loved and admired friend, colleague, and teacher, Mr Jim Turek.

Jim was a talented and dedicated craftsman who joined our CAT South family in 2015, sharing his craft, many skills and his love of nature with all of us.

We encourage everyone to use this time to reflect on his life and all of the amazing memories that he has given to us. We already miss him, and know that this loss is deeply felt by many.

As the CAT-South SkillsUSA Alumni Supporters begin to rebrand our mission and vision and begin our new chapter in supporting the Center of Applied Technology South, I would like to take a moment and thank all of our contributors to our History project. Understanding the history of our school and its humble yet determined beginnings has helped shape our understanding of what it is that we do, as a supporting non-profit.
