The medals are just the receipts. š„
This is redemption. Resilience. Confidence. Recovery. Proof that your body can do things you once werenāt sure it could. This is the life-changing, brain-chemistry-altering stuff happening inside Team IronLife.
Mike started the weekend with redemption at the Brigantine Triathlon. After a DNF here last year, he returned this season and finished in the top third of the field. Same race. Different outcome. Thatās redemption.
Andrea raced THREE times at USAT Nationals this weekend during her busiest triathlon season yet. Sheās seeing all those hours on the bike translate into stronger racing and getting faster on the run with every finish line. Thatās progress.
Amanda raced the Olympic Triathlon at USAT Nationals after spending much of the week in bed with a nasty cold. By race morning, her goal was simply to finish. She lined up anyway, competed alongside some of the fastest triathletes in the country, and did it sick. Sometimes the victory is simply having the courage to start.
James raced TRI AC and called it a ācasual Sunday morning triathlon.ā His biggest takeaway? Knowing he could knock out a sprint triathlon and finish feeling more energized than when he started. When something that once required everything youāve got becomes simply part of who you are.. thatās a breakthrough.
Kevin raced another Olympic-distance triathlon at TRI AC, just three weeks after his last one. After knee surgery in January, heās back racing stronger than beforeāand, perhaps most importantly, enjoying it because heās no longer finishing races in pain. Thatās not just a comeback. Thatās getting your life back.
So yes, weāre celebrating finish lines and medals today.
But weāre really celebrating who these athletes are becoming in the process.
Thatās the most exciting part of my job: witnessing that transformation right in front of my eyes.
And getting to be even a small part of that journey?
Thatās the most humbling part.
